Tell me what to say to Blouch turbo...
Edwin,
Just remember, you are going to have labor to take the turbos out, wait to have them rebuilt (car will be down). Along the way you are sure to have lots of little added expenses (which is ALWAYS) the case plus shipping. Then, of course, you have to re-tune.
I agree that the 24/18 is not for you, however you are not going to get a lot more out of the K16's by rebuilding them. You would get twice as much hp gains out of the hybrid GT 28's w/ all the other advantages you are looking for.
Of course the GT 28's are a 4K plus turbo, but you see them all the time in the 4sale section for 2K or less. If you got pair you would produce much more power (w/ absolutely zero lag) and you would not have the down time of the rebuild.
I know I sound like a broken record, but I have been around and know that once you start modding you will want more.

Thanks for the input... I appreciate your thoughts. I do agree that "bang for buck" the K24/18's are it and I have thought about it. I'll think about it again though

I just talked to Akram and he really likes the K24/18.

I just wanted a little bit more power so I bought a chip.. Then I needed more.. So I got exhaust.. Then I needed more so I bought a pair of turbos... Then I needed injectors, fuel pump, intake tubes, etc.. Now I want even more!!!!
I remember telling Sean, Paul, Joe, etc that the most I may EVER do is a chip.. Boy was I wrong LOL!

If I remember correctly a chipped 996TT will see about 410-430rwhp and a K16/16G car can make close to if not 500rwhp. I could have sworn that is what Seal Gray's car made.
Seals car is unusually strong for a K16...and I also believe that there might be a bit of dyno generousity involved.
Edwin, everyone I know loves the 24/18's and they don't complain about the lag. Unless your car is purpose built for a small road course like MSR than I don't think the lag on the 24/18's will bother you that much.
Tell me more about your car...is it your DD?

The car is not my DD and in the past, I've been known to be more of a cruiser than a racer
I like my cars to look good on the outside and not worry so much about the performance. Although I do have to agree with you that the boost is very addicting, i'm also trying to be cost concious. The way I see it is going from a K16 hybrids to K24/18 is at least $2500 more for the turbos plus clutch plus other little things.... it'll easily be at least $4k more. Also, I think if I were to ever get a K24/18 set up, I wouldn't really drive it hard more than 10 times a year. I MIGHT take it up past 110 on the westpark tollway maybe a few times a year but I definitely won't be racing anyone up past 100mph.

This is bone stock (334hp,380tq) vs. just flash (423hp, 491 tq) vs. K16/16g + 5 bar (491hp, 531 tq).
When I added an exhaust it bumpted to (496hp, 565tq) but with a good bump to area under the curve.
Seal, yes that is correct, the 28's are K16's on the hotside....that is why they spool so fast.
Edwin, if this car is not your dd then definately go for the power. There are a pair of brand new 24's fs right now, cheap. You can get the turbos and upgrade done for $3.5K.

Are you referring to AWE's turbos?

I know everyone keeps saying more power.. more power... Just remember to think about exactly what you want. I am lucky that I only care about straight line power or I'd hate my 30s honestly. I know I would do a lot of things different if I could do it all over again, but oh well. We live and learn.

What would you recommend for an all-around strong car with good street driving/runs? I thought it was the K16 hybrids but I like to hear your thoughts.
Edwin
Edwin,
Honestly man it is all about how much money you want to spend and how much room you are going to want to have to upgrade. With the 16G's you are going to get away with the cheapest price but you are going to be stuck with no upgrade options. If you go with the 24/18s though you can set the boost lower and ALWAYS have an option to go bigger.
Regardless both of them will require you to get a new clutch, and they both require a 5bar FPR.
I have never driven either so I cannot tell you the difference in lag, but I have never heard a complaint from Paul about his 24/18s on his GT2, in fact by the time my GT30's spooled he was already out 2 cars on me, so that in itself says they spool pretty damn fast.
Honestly though do what YOU want to do because it is you that will be enjoying the car. See if Paul will take you for a ride in his GT2 so you can see how the lag (if there is any) is. I'd show ya the GT30s but then you'd be afraid of anything bigger than stock because there is a lot of lag LOL.
