I asked the BMW SA about it, and he said Progressive wouldn't pay for repairs that met BMWs standards (used parts, repair not replace bumper skins, etc) , and they -the BMW dealership- had to go after others for the true costs. It got pretty messy because there where 3 parties (insurer, other driver, and dealer). It happened a few times and they then decided no more. If you have Progressive they will get you an Avis rental car, but not one of their loaners.

Interesting to see what the real costs are for your repair versus Progressive's $645 estimate....and how accommodating Progressive will be.

Update :::

OK, Body shop tore it apart and got their hands dirty. They are calling for a new bumper all together, 1 new bumperette, 1 compression shock (behind the bumperette), 1 license plate bracket, 1 license plate light fixture. So they are calling for $2700 and some change. We'll see if Progressive fights it or not tomorrow.

That's more like it. Let me know how things progress Hopefully Chris is treating you right so far

Btw, I'm not sure if Progressive has any say. If they think it's too high... take it to Ferrari of Houston

Edit: Jaime said that usually happens is that Westside will give Progressive a supplemental estimate that will show the additional costs and all you have to do is pay your deductible and authorize Westside to do the work.

Update :::

Progressive agreed to the Body Shop's new estimate. Looks like I'm getting and brand new OEM bumper. Should be done at the end of next week.

Do keep in mind that since it is the other driver's fault, if it is your insurance company 'running' the repair, they won't squeeze you too much since they will send the bill to the other insurer. Perhaps they have different internal standards when THEY will be paying the bill?

Glad to hear it was painless- they've waived the deduct right?

This is being handled completely by her insurance. Zero dollars out of my pocket.
