Tire size question: will 255/40 18 fit stock wheels?

Hi,

I'm looking for some snow tires and found a set of 4 255/40 18 Dunlops. Can I put these in front and rears on the stock rims of a 996 911 Turbo?

Thanks,
Paul

The fronts are too wide and the backs are too tall. The aspect ratio and stagger width is wrong between front and rear. They won't fit and could damage your AWD. Call one off the board tire sponsors. They are more than happy to help. Beside you live in Minnesota and don't you all drive snowmobiles in the winter.

^^^ +1. You'd get about a block (maybe) before your PSM went nuts, and if you kept going, you'd probably wreck your front diff, if you didn't oversteer right off the road.

aside from that.. a 255-40 would look like a ball of a stretch.

Not knowing which model, I pulled up the specs for a couple of Dunlop performance tires and checked the specs. The section width is 10.4-10.7 inches of the models I checked... You wouldn't want to get those stretched onto the 11inch rear wheels, not to mention finding a shop to mount them for you. Plus the car wouldn't handle well.
