According to the book "996 the essential companion" page 100 the PSM is automatically disable above 62.5 MPH....

mine is on most of the time except for fun drives. my last porsche was a 86 turbo had to really keep my witts about me with that car , it's nice to relax and drive around corners and know where my rear end is.

993997 is infamous around these parts
even when it's off, if you get out of shape it is still there. It is never really off.
