wowgogs is infamous around these parts
awd or rwd

This probably sounds like a dumb question... but I am new to the 911 world and I have read a number of times people asking if they did it in rwd or awd... How can they switch from one to another... Or is this an option in the newer 911s

It is not an option. They converted their AWD to RWD. This lowers the weight of the car and changes the car to traditional rear wheel drive. Our cars run in rear wheel drive most of the time anyway but will slip into AWD when needed.

the TT's come with AWD. it is to make a car with that much hp able to safely apply power to the road (ie vs a Viper). the newer 997TT's have an even better system.
in the wet its even better and safer than any RWD car.

the car comes from Porsche like that for a very good reason and it for 99% of the cars owners should be left that way.

those who chose to convert to RWD (and to do properly is expensive) do so for specific driving qualities they seek in a RWD car. ie better trail braking, throttle steer, better car rotation with drift in a corner ect.
the RWD version of this car can be seen in the 996GT2. BTW it is called the widow maker for a reason.

RWD in a race car is usually what racers prefer for some of the above reasons and why (as well as weight) I converted. this also has to then be dialed into a properly tuned suspension to handle understeer, camber, toe etc.

as said above MANY long and informative threads on this subject.

welcome.
