Might try the Agency power one as there going to swap it out, a sealed box feed cold air must be better than the EVO one anyway.

Thanks for the waffle tip though.

Anyone had any AP problems ??

So there are two mechanisms by which MAFs fail-

1. Contamination of the surface, eventually the sensed air flow is grossly different from the actual and the DME trips errors. (The sensor can be cleaned, until a oxide layer forms, then it needs replacing.)

2. Destruction of the actual sensor with PSM/ABS errors, running issues.

The latter is, IMHO, due to non-linear/dynamic air flow patterns occurring at high flow rates... one must consider how a MAF works. A temp sensor at the tip is monitored- as air flow passes this sensor, it tends to cool- a circuit tries to maintain the original temperature- the amount of current needed to keep a constant temp is proportional to the mass air flow at the tip-

At or near peak air flow, there is a significant current flowing to the heating element- if the air flow suddenly become turbulent or non-linear, the sensor can be momentarily subjected to a no or low airflow conditon- and that current that a moment ago was being used to maintain the temp all of a sudden overheats the sensor and POP- bad maf.

I think this is why this problem effects the evoms- there is something wierd about it's particular flow dynaics, and why the waffle is said to help.

My 2 cents

A

I am running the set up from vivid that uses the backhalf of the factory intake for the dual snorkel set up. I also did the stock muffler mod with GIAC tuning and hit 1.5 Monday. The car is pulling real hard with the dual snorkel intake and thus far no issues with the maf. I have a BMC filter that i removed oil from before inserting it.
had the evoms unit when I firt got the car and took it out after reading all the posts about blown MAFS.

+1 the Hitachi MAF's are far better/hardier units than the Bosch- the GIAC Hitachi MAF conversion/flash works very well. You shouldn't see any issues after that.

MAF's

I also encountered the blown MAF issue with my Vflow intake(part of my GT700 kit). Switched to the Hitachi unit with new revised evo programming and have not had any problems plus gained improved performance and smoothness. Highly recommended.

I had the same thing happen on my 996, and the mechanic said it was because of the Fabspeed intake.

Is the Hitachi a straight drop in ?

Got the AP kit fitted now, weren't to impressed with the airfilter fitment to MAF pipe they supply a small bit off silicon to build up space between pipe and filter hole bit of a lash up if you ask me.

Anyway all fitted but not tested due to the UK weather

I recently bought the dual snorkel air intake from Vivid. No MAF issues.

there is an upgrade which i believe is an aluminum insert that holds the factory intake's "waffle" in the airstream of the vflow. really helps maf longevity.
