This topic may have been beaten to death, but I searched and only found results for people wanting to remove the rear bumperettes/bumper support pads - or whatever you call the ugly black rubber "pads."

They're on my front bumper and they're hideous. Anyway to get rid of them on the front? I don't care about the rears, I'd just like to clean up the front end a bit and remove them, good idea or no?

I think they're really ugly.

My understanding is that the front bumperettes (some call them "warts") that are on the early '01 996tt cannot be easily removed (they are part of the front bumper and would leave a hole that has to be filled in and refinished). Options are: paint them to minimize their look, get a new front bumper without them, or just leave them be.

Your Seal Grey looks great with the clear sidemarker lights. After awhile, you'll probably learn to ignore the "warts".

Yes, there is. Remove the front bumper cover - about 10-12 screws. The bumperettes bolt into the bumper support. Remove them. As noted in previous post, this leaves a hole where they go through the plastic grills on the outboard sides of the bumper cover. You need to buy new grills. There was an issue at one time in the parts book where they had the wrong part numbers for the grills without the holes - make sure you get the right ones. The correct part numbers are:
996 505 563 0001C and 996 505 54 0001C

Removing the front bumper is a fairly easy DIY..best done with two people. If you don't like them get the new parts and go for it. Good time to clean the radiators also. Link is to bumper removal DIY.

Yes.
It's at my Porsche dealership right now getting serviced, I may have the mechanic pull them off for me and get the new grills needed.

It is a lot easier to get a 02+ bumper rather than repairing it. This is what I ended up doing since the body shop I went to told me it would be a lot of work to cover the holes up.

On my car ('01 TT) there are no holes in the bumper itself. Only in the grill. See picture below. When the bumperettes are installed, the solid upper corner of the grill is cut out. The grills have to be inserted from the rear with the bumper off.
