996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Are the factory carbon interior pieces really carbon, I heard they are not.

Unhappy Beware of wear areas

I have the small carbon fiber package in my Turbo. I like the way it looks. A couple of years ago I added the CF side air vent covers, just enough extra CF to add in the looks department in my opinion. However the CF covering has worn off where the air vent slats work up and down. This has exposed a clear or neutral colored plastic core. It is particularly noticeable on the drivers side; as that is the side that gets most use.

When it gets really bad I may replace them with more CF or replace the original black leather pieces.

Just be aware that you can wear through the outer CF covering (if indeed that is what it really is?).

How does one become a poser b/c they like the look of carbon fiber trim?

It looks good to some, just like the aluminum and wood looks good to others. Nobody is putting carbon fiber trim in their car to save weight... WTF, like saving 2 lbs from having carbon trim is going to improve your 0-60 time 0.0000000056 of a second!!!

Poser is the ******** who put GT2 on the back of a TT or M3 on the back of a 325 w/ an M3 bodykit.

After thinking about it, you are right, but it is different than just taking the stock piece and laminating CF on it. At any rate the rear center console is the most significant interior piece that you can do in CF imo. It's a must w/the CF shift **** and ebrake. That's the only carbon look I have in my car...Other than the "REAL" carbon fibre composite wing i have...

Guys,

The reason for my question had nothing to do with weight savings or anything else mentioned. I wanted to know because after my post requesting info on who could cover my interior pieces in carbon, I got PM'ed by several people that it can't be done, its real carbon etc. I knew it wasn't real carbon, but, wanted everyone to answer so those naysayers would stop saying its real carbon and so expensive etc. That's all. Now, can anyone cover my stock interior pieces in carbon at a resonable pric e or not??

Lou

Then why doesn't everyone just buy one of the CGT conversions made from a Fiero. It looks good, but it's a fake and has none of the qualities about which the CGT enjoys it's reputation, costs a ton less, and leads others think it's something it's not.

Carbon fiber is cool IMO because of its strenght and weight characteristics not because it's pretty.

Or GT2 body kits on turbos?

Dude, are you a byproduct of incest? When you put trim inside a car, it is to decorate the vehicle... hence the name TRIM. Just like the trim around the doors in your house look nice, they do not provide any structural integrity. Carbon fiber has a nice appearance to many, some like aluminum finish, some like wood grain, none of these trim pieces are going to affect the most miniscule performance characteristics of any vehicle (maybe a micro machine).

Why dont you take the trim off your car and go run the 1/4 mile, see if you get a few sextillionths off your timeslip!

BTW, putting a GT2 kit on a Turbo serves a purpose... if you noticed, the GT2 has sophisticated aerodynamic design that helps keep the car planted on the ground much better at 170+ mph speeds, ie the large wing on the back of the car for starters. When you track your car and are running 500-700 hp and can hit 170+ on a track, the GT2 kit helps.

Putting the GT2 logo on the back of a Turbo is gay.

hahaha.. my girl digs the CF, i explained the whole deal to her awhile back...interior look/feel is very important to me...that's why i paid the ridiculous amount to get it the way it is...

If you need to explain it to your girls just say... "Cars to Guys is like Handbags/shoes/jeans are to girls"

We don't need to justify our "Artwork"

i used to do this and my X girl would always get pissed that i related her lack of understanding with an analogy of women to clothes/handbags/shoes

but then again, she was really stupid.

LMAO!! My girl gets it and doesn't really question it. I also have to play nice since she'll probably be my future sugar mama!

I agree.

IMHO "poser" is all about the saying..."An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance". Porsche's "non-functional" carbon fiber falls in this category, as does aluminum trim and 19" wheels. Anything that does not increase performance or efficiency is by default in the poser category.

some of you guys on here make me laugh so hard I am going to sh*t myself.

so, you are saying, that customizing the interior of your car, or changing the wheels is stupid b/c it doesnt add performance to the car? Sh*t, we might as well not paint our cars either, b/c that adds weight too. We should take out our floormats also, and maybe the cupholders as well...

That is by far the most idiotic comment I have ever heard today. First of all, many people who drive on the street with 19s do it b/c they look nice, and when they are driving strictly for performance (on the track), they would use the bootiest 18" wheel on the market if it yeilded the highest performance result on the track. Since the street is not the track, and you should not be testing your car to the limit on the street, trying to shave 3/10s of a second off your 30 min drive home from work, then there is nothing wrong with having a 19" wheel for street use. Just like you drive w/ street tires, and not hoosiers when you drive on the street. Just like driving with racing seats, a helmet, and 5 point harnesses is gay if you are on the freeway.

as far as trim in the car goes, some people like the look of carbon fiber inside their car (for the 3rd F-ing time). THEY ARE NOT PUTTING IT THERE TO GAIN PERFORMANCE... THEY LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS. JUST LIKE A GIRL WITH FAKE **** DOES NOT BREAST FEED BETTER THAN A GIRL WITH REG. ****, BUT FAKE ONES LOOK BETTER TO SOME PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
