Just wondering. I heard the factory interior pieces in "carbon fiber" are simply covered plastic, anyone know for certain?

I always wondered about this. I knew for years it was just fabric over plastic, but everyone seems so excited about adding it. Funny thing is, there is no weight savings for these interior bits - it's all show. And that's fine too. But it does defeat the real purpose. Too bad they don't make much of the parts in true CF to begin with. Where's kirby?

For some the purpose is looks.... So for them it works fine... How much weight do you think you would save by replacing a cheap plastic door handle with real carbon...

I can see the point if we are talking hoods/wings or other larger parts....

Gary's right on body panels. I think the overall thinking here is the term: Carbon Fiber. Most of us car junkies think "weight savings" and "strength" first when someone says CF. But agreed, it's an appearance item only on the interior. Not sure how much weight you can save on the door handles, maybe a few ounces, but going to lite beer from standard will save even more!

I dont see why it makes a difference whether its all carbon or carbon covered plastic...The former would cost 3 times as much

I don't get it... People don't buy cars for the way they look? Then why do we even post pictures here and have people comment on their looks?

Poseur to me is someone that buys a CS, TT or Lambo etc... just to drive around in it and be seen... Does not even know about the car and never drives it anywhere near the way it was designed to drive...

If people like to change their wheels, add carbon (look) pieces, body kits etc. So be it... It does not mean they are a Poseur.... Under that criteria the whole "Florida Speed Brigade" qualifies as Poseurs... and I guess the "Six Pack" too... I would have a hard time defining them as Poseurs...

By the way... Glad to hear your enjoying your CS....

Watch out for those RMS leaks...

I don't believe the CF rear center console is laminate over plastic. When I replaced my standard plastic one with the CF one, it was much thinner(wall structure thickness) than the stock original piece and it's lighter... So that piece imo is real CF...

I dunno...the carbon covered plastic is already overpriced by a couple hundred percent IMHO.
