Why would Porsche couple the trunk and engine bay lights?

Why would Porsche couple the trunk and engine bay lights?
Just noticed that when I open the trunk the engine bay light turns on as well. The service adviser told me that it is how they were designed but can't tell me why.
Anybody knows?
