They should last much longer than 27k... try talking to the service manager there??

Also, how can you tell if it's a 1st gen or 2nd gen style?

1st gen were on all GT2's up to 2004. I agree 27k is really low. The frront pads were changed at 21,000 ie 6000 miles ago and no mention was made that the rotors were worn. So they have gone from 'normal' to need replacement in 6000 miles! Something aint right!

PCCB Question

Is there a difference between the PCCB’s used in the 996 GT2 and the 996 GT3?

Thank you,

-Randy

I'd imagine that having PCCB in the rear and steel fronts would change the handling under heavy braking. I'd imagine more breaking force at the rear which would make the rear a bit tail happy.

If you switch to steel fronts, I'd do the whole car. I'd also think about selling your rear PCCB's to off set the cost if that is important. You might also hold on to the rears in the event that you decide to sell the car. THat way you could just buy the new fronts and the car would have all PCCBs which would help the value.

Also, you mentioned that you had the pads changed 6000 miles ago and now your front rotors are chewed up. Did the shop put the correct pads on? If not, they might owe you a set of rotors and pads now, let alone free labor to bolt it all up.

Been looking at this post on stuttgart9

http://www.stuttgart9.co.uk/upload/p....php?t=5&pp=40

And one of their users has successfully litigated or convinced Porsche GB to give him a set of new PCCB's for his GT2 due to premature wear Check out how Porsche marketing of the PCCB's changed after they had a host of problems with the Gen 1's!!! So watch this space.
I even had my car MOT'd (thats a UK roadworthiness test carried out every year after the car is 3 years old) in July 2008 and they never picked up on any damage to the rotors and the car has been off road since October 2008 - so its hardly been used and they have pitted all on their own. Here's what I intend to do. As a number of guys have been running steel GT3 cup rotors up front and keeping the rear PCCB's, I shall buy a set of GT3 cup rotors and do a straight swap (Euro 568 delivered per pair). Here's the quote from Gert Carnewall who sells the rotors and loads of Porsche tuning parts:
The GT3 cup rotors are a straight replacement for the front pccb rotors.
A lot of drivers use the steel ones in the front and keep the pccb's in the rear as these don't wear as fast.

Are Gen II any more reliable? I was considering replacing them with steel while they were good and selling them. as long I can keep my calipers.
