Natural MAF cures "they" don't want you to know about....;)DIY
I figured this out years ago when I built my TT Camaro and the only viable option was to stick a K&N on the end of a hoses from my turbos.
Not sure if this was posted:...When a Maf becomes 'fouled' the surface gets an insulating layer- which makes it less sensitive to airflow. The DME 'sees' a signal with lower air, then reduces fuel- BUT the o2 sensors see leaning and adjust the long term fuel trim to increase fuel... this goes on until the DME's limit on fuel trim % is reached and you get a FT error..

Be aware that a "clean" maf can still have hard oxides and fouling on it. After a while the deposits/dirt becomes permanent and you just need to replace it.
I don't have any code issues but do get power surge when the MAF gets a bit dirty. I cleaned it 6months ago then again last night ahead of my DE at ThunderHill. Much smoother now and only a 5 min job!
I used this thread to determine my MAF was blown after the car started running like **** and stalling at intersections. It had 1.0#V at idle and wouldn't change with the engine RPM. Installed a new one yesterday and it runs better than i can ever remember....the throttle response is so smooootth!
P.S. The price at my local Porsche dealership was obserd - $947. I ended up getting one locally from anther supplier for $300 - had the exact same OEM part number starting with 996. Highway Robbery!!!

pm me the supplier name cause i may be in the market for one myself soon
Being that you are in the US your best bet is Pelicanparts.com. I think they sell it for $280 or so. I had a freind at a local garage order it for me and was willing to pay a slightly higher price to have it already in Canada because I didn't want to get hosed by UPS and Customs. I'm not sure where he ordered it from but I know here in the GTA there is a place called autocamping.ca that offers great pricing to repair shops.... I don't think they sell to the public.
I was wondering what is the 5th wire made for as it is not used on 996 TT ?
Tell me if I am wrong, but as far as I know it is the IAT sensing element signal.
If it is not wired to the ECM, why do we still get more expensive MAF with this IAT sensor ? (Boxster related ???)

I got lights and stalling problems on my boxster after installing an evom intake with K&N filter. I sprayed the MAF with electrical contact cleaner (didn't realize those parts were silver not black ugh) and it ran 100% better after that. Had to do yearly to keep it running tip top. Just became part of the yearly maintenance.
