Reason for buying your 996tt
My addiction started a LONG time ago when I first saw the movie "Against All Odds" when they were street racing the Ferrari and the Porsche. Always loved the body style, and from then on it's been in the back of my mind.
When I was finally able to afford one and started looking, I guess I was at a place in life where the older style Porsche's just didn't have the creature comforts in the interior that I'd become accustomed to, so it was either 996 or 997 models for me. Given the price differences between the two, I went for a 996 that I could modify instead of a stock 997.

I love cars, I love speed, I love automotive history--the 996TT has them all. A great pedigree, an awesome thrill and a bargain compared to Lambos, et. al which are not even 10% as reliable as the Pcar
And, they can be modded to be monsters

Like many here I've had many sporty cars. Eclipse, Rx7s, Supras (mostly turbos), Corvette, Miata and an E46 M3. I always wanted a Turbo 911 since I was 16 or so. Got it when I was 36.
You know: "It’s a funny thing about a Porsche: there’s the moment you know you want one, there’s the moment you first own one and, for the truly afflicted, there’s the decade or two that passes in between." Totally true for me.
The clincher was that I could have a classy, fast, no excuses performance car and reliably mod over time to stay current or ahead of the new car curve.
There are very few cars that are gurantanteed to age as gracefully as a wide body 911.
Really what more can one ask for?
I have decided to start collecting cars, one at a time about every 6 years. On the current list: C6 Z06, MZ4 (nobody seems to understand why), Aston Vantage, Viper?

Joe Di Maria brought in the first Miami 1976 lime green 930 turbo and told me to take it for a drive but don’t wreck it. It was the most explosive car I had ever driven and I was hooked since then on the Porsche Turbo.
It’s always been about the power, precision, race heritage and ability to make it yours.

I was at my BMW performance shop when a speed yellow GT2 pulled in to have a new set of rear tires installed. I was there getting a short shifter in my M Coupe. The shop owner asked if I wanted to take a ride in his friends GT2. I had never even heard of a GT2 before. The shop owner is also a NASA race driver, so when we hit the back road behind the shop, I could not believe the acceleration! I had been in M5's and M6's, but the GT2 was on another level. To my wife's outrage, I was hooked. The rest is history.

I was looking for a car that would be fun to drive and that I could drive most of the time. I wanted a car with a good build quality and unique styling. I also wanted a car with personality and heritage. I have always like the 911s and always wanted one. I was originally looking at the 996 4S, but the prices on the 996TT have dropped so much I was suddenly able to afford a turbo. I was tired of driving my f-150 every day (6) years although it's been on of my favorite vehicles I've ever had. My Z06 is more of a weekend toy and is not a DD IMO. The 996TT seemed to a perfect blend of what I was looking for. I was close to going with an SL55 though which is also one of my favorite cars.
I also have wanted one since I used to watch the doctors drive them around in the city while I waited for th bus to take me home from school......it's the best of everything with little compromised - by far the best DD money can buy. In short I bought it to drive it and enjoy it and it puts a smile on my face everyday - 216,000+ miles worth.....
I had a porsche 914 1973 for 25 years and i realy liked that car.Solded it and started saving to buy a used 996 TT.I thought the porsche 996 TT was going to be a great car,but i was mistaken. It is much, much better than i belived.I only drive it on the weekend and in 2 years i puted on it 20,000 miles.I can not descrive the feeling when i am driving the car.I hate that weekend days has only 24 hours each,i hate that.My car has few mods, but when you buy a porsche 996 TT,you buy it for the feeling you get driving that car,not because of the brand.
Nothing I've driven feels like a German car. Porsche makes the best German sports car/GT, JMO. The twin turbo is the ultimate 911, JMO. It is a reliable, awd, four season car. I didn't buy it to mod; I bought to drive it. But then I found this site and modding became inevitable. Can't imagine selling it.
Like many others on here have said already I wanted a porsche from when I was a kid and had die cast models and posters of 911's. I distinctly remember have the poster of the 959 and that is when I fell in love with the Turbo's as they carry such similar lines. Now that I have one I may never sell it or maybe might just update to a newer model sometime.
As a kid in Marina del Rey, I saw 911's and knew they were special. Many years later in 2005 when I knew I wanted a high perf car, I started looking at the E46 M3. But then I started looking at the new 997 C2S and knew I had to have a 911. Then I saw I could get much more car for much less $$ in a 996TT. The rest is history. Now, after 20K miles I just love it more than ever. Can't imagine selling it. And living in Monterey County, CA is one of the best places ever to drive it.
After many years struggling to pick between the dynamic trio of M3, (R)S4, C AMG...I know it's time to move on and pursue my dream car ---> 996tt. Believe me or not, I actually like the style of 996 over 997. Not that I am willing to dump my $$ on a 997tt anyway during this economy.
An e-ticket ride on the weekends. I first fell in love in love with the turbo's in 1976 when was given a joy ride. Had a few 911's but when I finally got my hands on the turbo it was definately worth the wait.
