broken shift linkage (I Think)

Showing off and shifting too hard Im pretty sure I broke my oem shift linkage, the shift **** is just flopping around. Doing some research on this site im coming to the conclusion that I should go ahead and install a oem 997 shifter along with an upgraded shift linkage. Im thinking of an Agency or a Evoms linkage any preference or comments.

Your cables probably just popped out of their "perch". Pop them back in? You can't go wrong with the 997 shifter though. LOVE mine.

I'm doing research because i drove my car a little hard accelerating and my shifter came out of gear in 3rd and is just flopping around. Is there a DIY to fix this cable?

Thanks
Kevin

If you just "POP' the shifter boot off (it just pulls up and off) you can probably see the cable and put it back on. There is a DIY somewhere...After you remove shift boot, you just hold the little spring "thingy" back out of the way, make sure the shifter handle is perfectly vertical, push the cable end down, then release the spring thingy...

i'm a little confused by this. I'm trying to remove the old cable/shifter linkage to replace it by a EVOMS billet shifter link but can't seem to have any success. So when i push the cable end "down", do i push the spring towards the front or rear of the car? And does the plastic under the spring just pop off or does it unscrew?

Maybe I'm confused. To remove the shift linkage from the shifter in the console, you need to push the "spring tension rods" toward the front of the car, pull the cable end UP to remove cable from shifter, release the "spring tension rod".
After you install new shifter, make sure you have the shifter in a vertical position (or use the alignment tool that hopefully came with your shifter), push spring tension rod toward the front of the car again, push cable end onto new shifter and release spring tension rod towards the back of the car to lock it in place. Do this to both cables.

My cable popped off at the transmission and the shifter did exactly what you describe. Just had to pop it back on.

Evoms short shift kit. Replaces the cheap plastic connector with a metal one.
