well on youtube i saw many cars street racing with the best editing on a video :P its weird ur saying there are no street racing at the states, maybe only some states dont have them , yes i agree its not safe but were its done in kuwait is on empty highway near the airport were there are no people found, sadly we dont have tracks the closest one is at bahrain ( 4hrs away by car) and no drag strips we used to have one which is closed now, i think we need a track to stop the street racing happening , but you know if you get crazy about tuning you need to sometimes test your car with another car by racing it and finding out whats the best. nice looking 996TT one of the best ive seen in my life top5 . Can you sharwith us your track stories please.

I don't think he meant anything negative toward you... It was more a reference to the geese that brought US Air 1549 down in the Hudson... I don't think he meant anything racist

Powell (Chris) is the last person that would be considered "racist". The goose was in reference to Marty's comment. All is well

Sorry I should have put something about the airline crash because of the Geese because I know that is not really world news worthy honestly. Yeah the short story is that a flock of Geese caused an Jet Liner to go down into the Hudson and luckly nobody was injured severly. When I saw Marty's post about killing the Goose it made me think of a picture I saw on digg.com

As for Kuwait though you all have some pretty extreme cars out there. I bet the racing is pretty bad *** out there! From the videos I have seen from you alls country there is some OPEN roads at night to go have fun on!

Q8-996TT:

First, it's great to hear from people in other parts of the world. Keep posting, there's a bunch of info in this forum and it's a great way to stay in touch with people that have your same interests.

Two things however:

With respect to the goose photo, although I don't think it was done with any racist intent, it was in bad taste. Don't let it get to you. We're just guys here trying to avoid work at the office. Some jokes work and other's don't. Powell's explanation makes sense and for sure there was no malice intended. But I agree with you, for someone in your part of the world, a bird with a turban is not very funny.

As for street racing, that's a sensitive subject around here. There have been some pretty horrific Porsche related accidents lately and "street racing" is just not a welcome subject. There are also some very accomplished track racers on the forum who do it the right way. They get so much speed at the track that they "drive Miss Daisy" when they are on the street. And that's the way it should be. Your explanation about the street racing in Kuwait makes sense. I have seen videos of the crazy stuff that goes on in the Middle East with some very expensive cars. You guys really know how to spend money on cars, that's for sure.

Anyway, to answer your question, I don't have any "kills" to talk about in my GT2 since I don't do much racing with it. I will admit though that about a week ago one of these Japanese motorcycles ran up behind me at about 70 MPH and veered off to the side to blow past me because I was "going too slow". I downshifted into 4th and you should have seen the look on the poor guy's face when I shot past him pulling 1.2 bar. Those bikes are fast off the line but they don't do so well at higher speed rolling starts, (at least this one didn't). (DISCLAIMER: The above-mentioned demonstration of speed took place on an open highway with very light traffic, specifically, on Highway 95 North of Las Vegas between the Mount Charleston entrance road and the Paulte Indian reservation.)

All of us have raced our cars on the street one time or another.... not all of us can afford to block out weekends to go to tracks and race our cars..... I have had some great kills in the turbo, one was on Sunday racing a Gallardo, yellow one.... Even though the car isnt that fast it just looks and sounds so dam cool when its on the road!

well after re-reading this post and seeing I got a negative rep from it I am guessing YOU are the "sensative sally"

back at ya

PS around our area instructors drive for free so driving your car to a track event usually costs a tank or two of gas, some may not be able to afford that however so you may be correct

didnt mean to imply that there is not street racing here there is plenty of it. but mostly stupid jackasses. you are in an area of the world were it sounds like it involves no one else's safety and certainly sounds better than what happens in this country. to really race anyone who has even half a brain and of course some talent and ***** takes their car to a track.

good luck in your part of the world

On a serious note I feel that I should point out a few things: The stereotypical street race/street racer/fastnfurious type is indeed a menace to society. Second, everyone with a Porsche should be mandated to spend at least two full days (8 sessions) on a track w/ quality instruction.

Having said that, the culture here really is unique. First, Hewstone Texaco really is a different place w/ a hyper car culture: It is, geographically speaking, an ugly place. I have lived all over the country, Ca, NY, Chicago (been to Fla) and our land is flat w/ no redeeming geography. What is wonderful is that we have these exquisit and cheap masterplanned communities sprawled out and connected by the most massive and pristine (compared to other places) superhighways you will ever see. Everyone drives 25K miles a year here just doing regular commuting (our lifestyle is not sustainable, I will be the first to admit).

Although Houston is a HUGE place w/ more 500 plus hp cars than anywhere on the planet, most everyone knows everyone. Our meets, GTG are very cliquish and if we think there is even one in a million chance that you are an idiot, you will never get invited to a run. Most everyone I know has lots and lots of track experience, 1/4, road course, kartring etc.

When we go out for a run we like to go in fairly small groups (the most common is 4 cars) and if there is even a hint of traffic we will not go. Some new guys have done stupid stuff and you can guarantee they will never be invited again. 2 cars will square off and go on the third honk. Again, I, and most the people I know would rather lose a race than take any chance. There is an art and a science to the roll on.

Now for chance unscheduled the encounter on the street, yes I get those all the time. Again, I won't go unless it is 100% safe and when I do I rarely lose.

EdiT: And one other very important thing: Most of the roll on community here is much older, 30's 40's and above. The record 60 to 130 is held by a gentelman who is about 60. I generally don't believe that those under 30 have the experience or temperment to do what we do. I certainly would not let my son participate. Chris is an exception but he is mature and conservative (and a bit of a wuss) A while back there was a 19 year old in a TT Viper that wanted to play and none of us would get near him. As expected, he stacked his car (but is fortunately OK).
