Well put Jeff - I don't think Kevin is kicking or Screaming in his post, simply stating his side. I'd hope you are comfortable with letting him do that and not expecting him to just sit back and let opinions sway as to whether his kits are any good or not because regardless of these cases you're finding now he has been supplying various clutch kits for years for high hp cars. I would suspect that again, there may be an initial install error that has yet to be discovered and is continuing to cause the bearing to fail or part numbers need to be double checked and perhaps there's a run of bad parts (wouldn't be the first time its happened in the industry to say the least). Either way the fact that you and Kevin are both voicing your sides of it is only productive and will hopefully help get to the root of the problem that much quicker. Good luck.

I think you both need to communicate with each other and sort the issue out!

i have the exact same issues as $manager

mine broke 3 times.

2 of which broke literally within 3 weeks and about 100 miles

one of the 2 fork looking things just snapped right off

im being told its because they are too long and not strong enough, but there is no other option....

yes
its the kit that came on my car
964 rsr flywheel
with a special type of throw out bearing...

the forks are much longer and thinner than the oem 996tt version

however, i dont have a Sachs clutch anymore.. i use a clutch masters kit ...

we changed and alterered the strength of the pressure plate thinking it contributed to the release bearing going out... but it didnt
also we changed the slave cylinder

mmmmm! Strange... sounds very like there is an issue to address but think Kevin needs something to go on.

Sorry! I am very interested as I am installing some similar kit.

My components also came from clutchmasters, but were to Kevin's specs and in close coordination between Kevin and my indy. I have had ZERO issues with the clutch throw/ travel/ bearing noise. My issues have been with the clutch material sticking to the flywheel/pp and with the crappy hydraulics.

My setup was replaced 3 times within 4 weeks by the indy, but had zippy to do with anything other than clutch slip... I'm inclined to believe that the issues are related to installation, based on what I was told by the folks at Clutchmasers, the indy, and from Kevin. There is certainly a lot that you need to know about this instal if you plan to do it yourself... If any indy can screw it up (and who knows whats really going on here), my guess is I'd be able to for sure!

This is the way to resolve an issue like this. Professionally and civilly without anecdotal information or a bunch of name calling and figer pointing thrown in the mix. I'm left with better information and a better understanding of what might have gone wrong....also now aware that there's another possible source of parts that may have contributed to the failure. All in all...a good discussion that was tastefully done. The only thing missing is that there has been no third party or manufacturer's examination of the failed parts in order to determine a possible cause and allow for correction.

BTW...I too use Kevin's clutch kit ...so the initial lead-in to this discussion did get my attention.

Good point Chuck. Like I mentioned, information is [or at least should] be what this place is all about.

What did you find out re "another source of parts that may....?"

I got that from the dialogue that referenced Clutchmasters as a source.. Kevin stocks new kits made up from parts from various reliable manufacturers and sources....he also rebuilds kits; which is what I bought....the refurbished dual mass flywheel in his upgraded kit rather than go for the LWFW. I did that to save a bit of money and am satisfied with the product and performance so far.

Update:
Clutch pressure plate, flywheel and two broken bearings are going to Sachs Race Engineering's USA headquarters in Michigan to be looked at by lead engineer for race group here in the states. Will advise in a few weeks.
