no GT3's have no lag.

That same X50 with proper tuning and exhaust will come alive. The factory exhaust is about as responsible for lag as the factory turbos.

Coming from 500hp+ NA cars, yes any turbo car has lag! The 996tt with stock turbos and tuning is very very little lag though, just feels like a smaller displacement v8 I guess. Decent torque through the powerband. I definitely would not let it scare you away, its very negligable and the thrill of the turbos coming online and pulling to redline is very cool

Overwhelming

Thanks for all the feedback. This kind of enthusiasm will make great fodder for my blog. I was thinking about chipping my forrester but I'm going to hold off because I don't want the lag to get any worse. Looks like I'll need to rethink my upgrade stragety.

I had a K27 930 too. You are right, it felt like days sometimes for the boost to hit. Did you ever hit it in second gear at low speed? It reminded me of the line, "Bueler.....Bueler.....Bueler......".

Honestly,

You are better off with a non x50 car if you don't want lag and are on a budget. The stock turbo with a chip is the way to go. It really depends on your budget and what you ultimately want. One thing I know is you can get just about anything you want but it's alot $$$!

I don't have a 996tt (yet) but have a b5s4. Stock there wasn't a whole lot of lag but it was there, car just needed more power! So I chipped and took them up to ~1.2bar and now there is deff some lag. I'm still on K03's, and haven't gone to K04s yet. Debating if I want to build the motor up and use k03's for faster spool or just go off the shelf and do k04's for the power. Before my s4 I had a 01, 225hp tt that I chipped and that thing was fun. Loved the spool feel which made me go for a turbo feel again, therefore the s4. Becareful! It gets addicting!

I think there's quite a bit of lag on 996TT due to the size and type of the turbo's. Some cars with smaller turbo's have no noticeable lag, my daily is a chipped 335i and it feels like a N/A engine, most of the torque is available by 1500rpm's Porsche began using VTG turbo's on 997TT specifically to reduce turbo lag.. I haven't drove the 997TT, but from what I know, it has almost no lag either.

Yes, this is a big jump for me so I'm not making any quick decisions. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I commit to anything. AND I'm afraid to get too sucked in, Addiction = too much $$$$$$$

Thanks for all the info everyone! Much appreciated!
