A4 Meets 27T is infamous around these parts
Newbie question here, what turbo comes on the x50 package? A regular k24, right, not a hybrid, am I correct, or is it a k16/24?

From what I've searched and read about you can upgrade your x50 turbo to the k24/18g?

Now how much cheaper would it be, if you have a x50, to just send in to whatever tuner your k24 turbos and have them do a k24/18g transformation or just buy a new pair and sell your k24s?

I'm just a little confused on the k24, k16/24, k16/16g , k24/18g.

Yes, it can be a little confusing at first. The "normal" 996tt comes with K16s. The X50 996tt comes with K24s just like the GT2s. People have sent in their K16s and made them into a K16/16 with very good results. Those with X50s can send in their K24s and have them make K24/16s or K24/18g. Now in my case I bought a "normal" 996tt with K16s. I ditched them for the K24/18gs.

I think EPL sells the 16/16 kit for around 3200. I'm still on my stock clutch. With 24/18s you'll need a clutch very soon after installation.

K16/16 will cost $1200 (K16 turbo conversion and 1 bar) + flash
5 bar fpr - $200

K24/18g - $3500 (if you dont have k24 already)
Clutch most likely will go so (1400 + 1000 labor) - In your case since you have a tip this is not needed, but saw blackhorse turbo did something to strengthen the Tq convertor. Search his thread.
Injectors recommended - $600 + labor
Flash

So the delta here would be about 6 k give or take.

I think it was blackhorse turbo. The fastest tip on this forum.

If you have k24's from the X50 pkg your best bet is sending them in for a 18g conversion. It costs around $1200. If you want a ride in a 16g car ...i am in chicago, pm me. But dont get aride in 18g car before that...you will find my car less than stellar.

This thread is becoming more and more useful for those of us new to the community. Could we now go on step further and classify the same list by "rough" cost and possibly expected awhp (or even rwhp) figures? It would be exceptionally useful to also understand where more supporting mods such as the 5 bar fpr and a different clutch and/or injectors become mandatory. I'm currently at the K16 flash level, but would guess that my tune (Gemballa) would place me more or less even with a stock K24 for the most part since it's not one of the modern tunes.

I realize that many of you already know all this stuff, but for new owners such as myself I think consolidation of this information is really useful. Thanks for everyone's time to help educate those of us who need it.

I'm staying with the 16/16. It's damn fast and super snappy. When I'm on the freeway and need to get to an offramp or get in front of someone, I dip into the pedal and I'm there. Now. The car is faster than 99% of the cars you will run into. I don't get into throttle that much so for me the 24/18s would be nice, but probably overkill. I'd rather put money into something else for now, so I'm going to sit tight. The only time I want more power is when I hang around the power hungry crazies on this site. Otherwise, I'm good.

Now, on the other hand, power is good and more power is great. Are you the type that needs the 1000 watt stereo or are you good with 600? Do you check all the options when buying or just the ones you need? Tough call. The other thing you might consider is whether you are going to get the Lambo. If so, I wouldn't put a dime into the turbo. Decisions, decisions, but what great choices to have. Life is pretty good for you
