Opinions on K16/16G turbos ?

Thinking of my next mod(have EPLflash ,speedtech exhaust). Debatting between K24/18G vs K16/16G. I know k24's make more power. But around here there is realy not to many roads to use high HP. I'm not looking to do highway pulls or roll on's. I'm looking for something that drives a little more like a NA car(a realy fast&fun one). My fear is that I will quickly get used to the 16G's extra 40-50hp over my curent set-up . I also feel that the 16G set-up is a little pricy for its modest HP gains. Are K16/16G's for me?

All opinions welcome, good or bad

Thanks guys, Karl

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it about $1000 to turn k16s into 16g?

If so 40-50hp for 1000 is pretty cheap...

That would be a great price. I've shoped a little....around $3500 seems to be the going rate.

GT650, how would you discribe the difference between a flashed k16 vs the K16g's?

if your going to upgrade your turbos i think you should at least have the factory 24 in there. Maybe find out some info on a K24/16, that might be the perfect mix of streetable + fun power.

significant, as you see a solid and efficient 1.1-1.2 at all times VS a K16 flash car will extract 0.9 to 1.0 max.

I have noticed that the 16gs run better than the 24/18 around town cause my street runs are about 0-120...but there honestly is no comparing the 24s on the hwy but again if you didnt have the 24s before going dow to the k16s then no worry...nothing to miss

I have the 16g now ... response is amazing. Agreed that it doesn't hang with the big boys on highway though.

I've been thinking of upgrading to the GT28 (from EPL) with ball bearing, only worrying about the spool up in comparison to the 16g.

I just drove a 16g(EPL) set up... I also have a 18g car(protomotive) in my garage....
there is significant difference between the two.... even the 16g car owner said so....
The 16g dies sooner... 18gs pull harder and longer... but still die at around 6500 rpms...

Guys,
Its my car. I think the 16g's are a good upgrade if you are budget constrained. They are a good turbo much much faster than flashed car and faster than many cars out there. But the k24/18g is the turbo to go if you dont wont to get bored and want highway power up top.

Dont believe all the hype about the lag on a 18g. That's not true , i havent felt any lag on the 18g turbo ...to me it spools the same as a 16g.

Overall for $1000 you can get the 16 g conversion done and then pay for flash,5 bar fpr and install. That's it. I am still on my stock clutch.

with the 18g ....it gets steep..most likley the clutch will go so factor in $3000 and then injectors are a must in my opnion so add another $1500. Turbos are another $2000 more than 16g.

So its about a 7K price adder if you go the 18 g route.

For the price i paid ...i am very happy with the gains and the performance. I might just skip the 18 g and go for the GT28 on my next upgrade. The GT's are a better turbo.
