i do know that when my car was a moded k16 it was fast, but not as fast a a k24. i would get the jump, but as soon as i was is 2nd the k24 would pull ahead and keep pulling. i now have the k24 with all the mods gt2 IC, wastegates, ect and my car is way faster then the k16 set up. have you had a boost leak test? i think people with the k 16's don't think about is, once you're in the boost rpm you never leave it. yes there is a 3-500 rpm difference in the boost hit, but once you're there the k 24's are gone... the car feels much more stronger now then before. thats just my 2 cents...

I agree also..When I just had a tune and exhaust on my X-50,,,,From a stop or from a high rpm punch ,with a flashed and an exhaust
k16 car next to me,I would pull from them slowly but surely....Probably a K16 car would get a jump on me if I raced his race ,from a low speed roll on...BUT...I would only race my kind of race....lol.......Also,,as you know,,there are different tunes and exhausts that respond differently from one to another...It boils down to how you drive your car to take advantage of the mods..IMO......

There are options that give K16 perfromance and more power.K16 with a K24 impeller. 16/16g swaps and Ball bearing Garrett 2860RS turbos that go up to 530 AWHP. a 200 WHP bump. In an AWD car that's still very manageable.

My car is an X50 option flashed, with exhaust and filter (EST-530bhp @ crank). My friend has a standard car, with exactly same modifications. In the real world there is sod-all in it (30bhp) out of which, his car I feel has a better power delivery (due to no lag – it feels snappier). I actually think in a proper racing scenario on a local track or on a spirited (A) road curvy drive the standard car with above mentioned mods is a quicker and a more sure-footed proposition. Big turbos are for race tracks with long straights sections or motorway racing where it’s all about above 120mph acceleration. A month ago, I drove my friend’s 996 GT2 with 650bhp on a local track. The thing was un-drivable. I was spinning in 4th! My lap times were 5 seconds off my usual times. I believe once all the theories and big power numbers in a pub arguments have been exhausted, in the real world any power above 500bhp is all relative... If you want to be the fastest guy on the German Autobahn and pull away from everything on 2/4 wheels then the big bhp is the wholly grail. If not and the spirited fast drive through curves and attacking local tracks is your thing, big turbos and big bhp numbers only get in your way. In reality, the standard lag-free fast spinning turbo with 500bhp is all you will ever need in above mentioned scenarios. And if 650bhp car gains 30 feet on the pit straight so be it. Waiting for a plane so a bit longer post...

Great info on this post. I have a normal 996 turbo with europipe exhaust and BMC filter. Getting ecu upgraded now. Considering upgrading to the X50 turbos and intercoolers. Trying to decide if the 30+ hp is worth the few thousand dollars.

even better IMO I think you get more of a rush out of turbos than a V8 even if the power is the same I love the way turbos deliver that power ... V8 is nice linear power whereas our turbos are non linear screaming power, they hit hard and push you forward rushing air thru... gotta love it...I get more of a rush accelerating with hard hit full spooling on the GT2 then I got with any V8 N/A cars in the past...

Haven't upgraded to the X50 turbos and intercoolers yet. Still considering. But, i just got the car back today. Europipe exhaust and BMC filter. Just had the ecu tuned by sport tec. It's awesome. It feels like a completely different/ better car. What about diverter valves? Suggestions? Thanks.

Unless you can get the parts very cheap I wouldn't even bother with stock K24 turbos (X50/GT2). If you're doing a turbo upgrade you might as well modify your current ones or get some more modern larger ones. I say this driving an X50 car btw.

i'm planning to do X50 upgrade as well. Does the X50 comes with two K24? Is there any lag with the X50 turbos? I see alot of people like the K24/K18 setup. Is the K18 turbo OEM from Porsche as well? Sorry, i'm new to this whole thing. Do i need to replace the clutch with the X50 setup? Please for any input/advise on this.

Take a deep breath and start reading.

The "X50" option is two K24 turbos, slightly more efficient intercoolers, and software.

If you are going to mod your motor, DON'T limit you choice to "the X50"...first, a non-factory 'x50' will never be an "X50"...it is just bigger turbos...so once you decide to mod the turbos CHOOSE the best set up for YOUR use.

How?

Read.

(FYI, the term "K24/18" is a 'hybrid' turbo- not one on one side and a different one on the other....read, it is all here!)
