i have a 996tt cab with a few mods, dv, exhaust, 75-mm tb/ plenum and flash. i spent a few hours(lol) deciding what to do next. i just got my k24s yesterday and changing the exhaust to the 3"bbi exhaust. not only did i save $ with the regular tt, all the mods i do , even when i upgrade to the 24/18s, will be much cheaper then a clean s or X50 . and i kind of know what I'm talking about now, and it's fun going through stages.... good luck,

Will you be keeping this car as a low miles garage queen and look to sell it to a collector? If so, packages will add to the value.

If no, you will just drive it, mod it, etc... then those packages are worth much, much less.

The brakes are not highly sought after, the cost to replace is so great that it can be considered a negative. Many yank the ceramic and run steel.

X50 is cool, as a base to then mod exhaust, wastegate and programming (seem my sig)...but it is easy to get that performance with new turbos for a few $k...which is the incremental value of the X50 in the market.

If YOUR perfect car is there with an x50 or without, you can add the mods to get to any point you desire...so I'd not wait on the X50, I'd concentrate on all the other stuff (coolor, interior, condition) that cannot be upgraded

a car is only worth what someone will pay. once anyone becomes emotionally invested in a car like this, the owner thinks it's worth a hell of a lot more. look up sports-trend in van nuys, CA. they just sold a 05 S for 48k ,that's the market price for that car now. in 3 short years it's in the high 30's . 2 years is the cut off point if you want to re-coupe or upgrade without a huge loss. don't know where you're at, but they have the best prices i've found anywhere, and they ship cars worldwide. they have a web site, check them out. i've bought two from them; the first one i sold two years later with a loss of only 2k. now I'm emotionally invested in this one!!!! LOL if you buy one from them tell them mike with the 04 996tt cab sent you their way... good luck and hope you haven't lost any sleep over this, because if you have, you're already emotionally involved!!!!

HP #'s are the same but drive them side by side. nuff said. I linked some posts in my previous message. By whatever you wish but really drive and compare. There are reasons why the 05 TRUE TURBO S cars bring much more $$$$ on resale compared with let's say an 04 X50 car. Before I purchased mine the dealer let me have 2 x50 cars for the day and then the TURBO S the next day. My choice was simple. I remember asking the Porsche tech about this and he said it's the thought from many owners-techs they differ a bit despite what HP states.
Happy Holidays to all!

The X50 also has a more robust transmission as part of the package and that is one reason why Porsche didn't sell it to be retrofitted to cars that didn't come with it.

So, even if one can get the same power or even more out of a non-X50 car by various means, it still won't have that transmission so an X50 car is better as a start up platform for more performance than the regular car.

I second your thoughts as there is no technical difference between an X50 996 Turbo and a Turbo S - none except that the ceramic brakes are standard on the Turbo S but could be retrofitted to the regular Turbo anyways.

The allure of the Turbo S is that it was a lot cheaper to buy than speccing a regular Turbo with the options which were standard on the Turbo S.
