996TT Perception
I think it does good for our business. My business partner drops that I own one every chance he can get. Porsche = success. We are a Internet / Marketing Agency and our clients want success. Who wants to go with a loser?
Now I can see the opposite effect depending on your business. If you are in the paper business or some other consumable, people dont care and will just think they are overpaying for example.
My 2 cents.
BTW, yellow is HOT!

I am in PR/Crisis consultancy business.
I’ve been told that my car is stirring envy (in a negative sense) at a client. Mostly with top dog, just one of those things. I actually could not care less as people think I am doing great work for them as a consultant and I am priced reasonably. But the car has started to be mentioned more and more, so I find it fascinating. Maybe we should discuss the psychology of business people when they see you roll in with the Porsche. I would suspect it goes like this; the bastard is ripping me off!

I said, without the yellow he'd be getting the respect he's looking for. I also said "I" can't be jealous of a guy with yellow who wants to be taken serious. I also said the colour he chose is a "LOOK AT ME" colour. How can an exec driving an Audi a6 be anything but jealous/put off when you flaunt that **** in his face? Had he picked a low key colour, he'd be better off.
I did say he doesn't get the attn he wants, but what I meant was he gets the bad attention he doesn't want, because of the colour of his car.
I see a business man get out of a Silver 911, and I think, this guy is mature, I'd shake his hand and do busniess with him.
I see a man get out of a Yellow 911, and I think, why's he not wearin a yellow suit? This guy obviously wants to be the center of attention.

I have only gotten positive feedback thus far. But I will leave the car at home based on the client I plan on meeting with. Rolling up to a church client in a turbo, probably will not go over well just because of the perception. First impressions and perception are the rule unfortunately...
"I have not bought it for the; look at me I want to be in the center of attention."
"I also want to be seen when I am booming at 200mph down the German autobahn"
To be honest, I'm a little confused. It seems at times, at least, you want to be the center of attention.

Terminator, I also found the same thing when I lived in London and had my TT. In fact, I tried to let as few people know as possible at work and business associates. You never know how people will react, in particular clients who may feel that they were paying too much for services provided. I think it's ok to dress well, have a nice watch, and a good lifestyle, but OTT sports cars can come off as a little much IMO. The old addage that successful people like to do business with others like them does not always hold true...
After about a year it was getting harder to make up stories about what I did on the weekends, as it was always a track day or hoon of some sort. Once the cat was out of the bag, attitudes changed quite a bit. Colleagues, and in particular people I managed, who were not as successful would make backhanded comments, and I only let one client know that I was friends with, and it ended up being a small source of discomfort in business negotiations. Until he ended up getting a 996 cab after a ride in my car that is haha.
I guess the lesson I learned is not to mix business/work with your hobbies, as you just don't know how it will affect your relationships.

Who cares what they think. If they are so insecure that someone else having a nice car sets them off, I think it says more about their petty state of mind, rather than reflecting on you. If they think that way, maybe you are better off without them, and with more success minded clients. At the very least, don't be embarrassed that you drive a supercar. Be thankful.
It's on a need to know basis. A few people that I am friendly with at work and understand the "car thing" are cool with it. I feel very awkward around anyone else from work and clients especially for the same reason most have stated. It does stink that I have to be ashamed or emabarassed that I have a nice car, but it makes things easier I guess.
Sorry, wrong attitude in my opinion. Which is more important? What they think about you, or how you think about yourself? Don't give away your power to them. Successful people are the ones who are secure in who they are and enjoy who they are, not the ones that let others dictate the game. Just my .02 and nothing personal.

It's not an attitude, just keeping the peace. For example, it's not my fault that some guy from work, who makes squat for money, decided to have 4 kids and looks down on you with jealousy because he can't have one and wonders how you can have one and he can't even though it's obvious to everyone but him. If he doesn't know you have a nice car, just makes it easier to work with him. Don't have to like him, just have to work with him and it's easier if you don't have to deal with that. I mis-spoke when I said I was ashamed, CLEARLY I'm not ashamed, just try not to flaunt it at work.
As a business owner my sentiment is that you are overcharging me if you show up in a TT. Maybe not fair, but I would look for an up and comer in a BMW.
I almost never take the car to a place where I am seeking business unless I need to prove I can handle the BIG job. Mostly it's my own private thing, but I don't mind if most people see it.

I agree. I don't owe anyone an explanation of why I have a certain car, but I'd rather not be put in that position at all... again ...just easier and ONLY at work.
I tell people that they are 50k used now USA$. Then they go...that is less than a new 5 series...and I go right...then they think I am brilliant.
Some won't ever get it...but those who do, and most do, really respect my choice. They know I drive/track...and they realize it is my hobby of sorts. I suspect if I drove it mostly to be seen in it only I might have a harder time.
I tell people it is cheaper for me to have this than an average car and a Harley...and a lot safer.
