Exclamation Need help - brake duct install

Putting some big 996 GT2 brake ducts up front, everything else there is stock. Suncoast stopped stocking the GT3RS ducts (not sure why) but these are very similar in size.

Looks like I will need to trim some plastic off both front and back ends to make it fit.

Anyone can confirm exactly where and how much they trimmed and have any close up pics installed etc?

You don't have to trim anything on the duct... what I done was make a slit in the plastic (think it is part of the undertray, my car is not here at the moment) you are only making a slit 2 or 3"... I then made another tiny slit for a cable tie to attach duct and undertray together (see the hole in the right hand side in your pic of the duct)... hope this makes sense.

Just remembered something else, you might have to take a small nick out on the left hand side on your pic... it sits very close to a ball joint.

It's difficult when I don't have the car here!

Yes, making a slit was what I thought was going to be needed in the right (front side). Thanks.

Anyone else though with pics would be greatly appreciated.

I ended up trimming a little off the end closest to the rotor, otherwise at full lock inwards it was pushing and buckling the duct. Also slit the other end and it slots in place nicely with the under tray plastic:

Now just wish they were cooling some PFC floating rotors!

I just notched mine. If you are going to the bother switching brake ducts you might as well change out the backing plate or atleast trim the plate to expose more of the rotor.

Seems like changing out the ducts won't make much sense with out modifying the backing plate for more of the rotor to get fresh air.

It might prudent to add some zip ties to your ducts too while your under there.

those are completely different ducts.
the ones with the rivets are cup ducts they are larger and longer. the front edge needs to be trimmed slightly.

Cup ducts are vunerable to damage by road humps and driveways as well as roads with lots of curvature.

Suncoast probably stopped stocking the 996 GT3RS ones because nobody bought them at about 200 dollars a pair! (no 996GT3RS in the USA)
