Dock is correct. The poll is flawed because it does not address whether mods were done...just year of car. Plus you should have asked if the fan blows or sucks...LOL

I knew you'd not like this.
Did my best.

My mod changed the flow of air...and I think that was a problem. Hence the poll..

I got this light a few weeks ago on a drive, figured it was the fan itself (might have ingested a bit of spray paint ), car is an 01 so I'll have to check the polarity tomorrow when I get back to the office, thanks for the heads up.

Mine has always pulled air into the engine bay from the top...

Now that it is getting hot out, I was able to catch mine and it blows inward. Does your fan come on after the car is parked and shut off? Is that normal?

raineycd it is normal. For 40 minutes the ECU is taking care of the engine compartment temperature. As soon the temp. is reaching 172F it will start and stop to keep it under 172F...

just for general info since this is the turbo section and it doesn't apply to your cars but it could be a source for some of the confusion...the 996 GT3's have a decklid exhaust fan that only comes on when the engine compartment is quite warm and it removes hot air from the compartment (blows out)...it will usually come on after you shut the engine off and is meant to prevent heat soak

With both the original stock decklid and the GT2 decklid - airflow is from the engine compartment outward.

The deck lid fan on all 996 Turbos pulls air through the deck lid and blows it over the engine. The air exits below the engine.
