The Chronicles of Porsche Fault Code 94 - Tank Vent System (Major Leak)

Well, after about a month of this code not wanting to go away on its own (I'd reset it and 5 days later it would be back), and my fuel sensor not working I got pissed and decided to tear into it.

Well, upon removing all of the fuel lines from the tank this is what I've found. My buddy swears that fixing this should cure my problem....opinoins?

Is that a large crack in the plastic below the connectors?

Yes it was.

Here it is after a few minutes with a soldering stick

I'd do a better job but this is by far the smelliest, most toxic fume creating, making you cry plastic I ever melted.

I'll finish it off with some gas resistant silicone from the inside and outside, just to be safe.

I also measured up the fuel guage and the sensor checks out fine, I guess it just needs to be calibrated.

I'd have gone for JB Weld. I repaired a cast exhaust manifold with that stuff once and it held for the two years the friend of mine still owned the car. :-O The repair you did looks good, hopefully it won't just crack again!

I wouldn't risk JB weld anywhere where there is gas/petroleum as it is an epoxy.

Annoying CEL light, and I'm not sure but my butt dyno tells me that it would limit the shifts on my TIP. Another thing is that with the CEL light on the MPG would drop to 14.7 and the car just felt like it was running pig rich.

Since the gas tank is a closed system, I'm sure the fumes could soften the JB Weld.

I've tried it in many instances, from timing belt covers to engine blocks and muffler bearings and it didn't last long.

The weld I did using a hot "iron" by working the plastic is what most bumper repair shops use. It makes a bond as strong as "factory" as it restores the bond between the like plastic particles. The only reason why I used silicone is that if there is a pinhole creating the leak the silicone will seal it.
