New Vipers are fast!
I am also waiting for some more R&D on the ZR1. The aftermarket will get this going at some point. The problem is the small # of cars that are out there and the smaller # of owners willing to mod the car and actually drive it.
I also think the GTR is going to be one of those cars that can get some pretty good gains for not a lot of money.

The GTR will make ~570whp on the stock turbos, maxed out.
I have good reason (and hard evidence yesterday) to believe that
a new Viper Coupe (2008, 600 HP version) with custom headers/exhuast
and a tune is a very fast Hwy Cruiser.
My car will pull slightly on this car but the VIPE is surprisingly quick.
This Viper did 600 RWHP on a Dynojet Recently.
I was on a closed course yesterday and was with a certain ATOMIC (orange colored, highly modified) Z and we witnessed this together.

.
Happy Memorial Day and be safe!

Sounds like you had some fun runs MK!
I do regret buying the Porsche over a Viper sometimes... Mainly because of the fact that my car would probably be sitting a Underground getting a big nasty turbo setup built for it... Well I take that back ... it'd actually probably be in my garage with my fabricators building a nasty turbo setup for it

They are very fast indeed. I had the chance to run agaisnt Jamie Furman's SRT viper (stock) and the thing trapped 130...right out the box. Later on that day he ran 10's.

Keith - Thanks for the video. We will have to schedule the closed track for some runs when you get the tuning done. We are picking up a couple of barrels of race gas tomorrow. What octane do you need. I imagine there will be another order placed yet this summer if you want a barrel. There is a station up on 169 that sells 100 at the pump.
Marty - The grey Viper is sexy. Looks like a dead ringer for the one used on the closed road for educational purposes the other day.

Always wanted a Viper. Never had the cajones to drive one though as I heard they can bite hard driven at 9/10's. That'd be great if the newer ones have been made a bit more forgiving on the edge of adhesion.
Really? I haven't heard that, but you've got to wonder what will happen with Chrysler filing bankruptcy and possibly going under? Anyone else know?
There were some crazy incentives back in February when I bought my '09. Normally, SRT vehicles and Viper are excluded but this time everything was included with one exception. Viper ACR. Even so, there were dealers willing to let them go in the low 90's. I wanted one bad but I just couldn't justify paying the premium over my '09 coupe. I already have better brakes and suspension than the ACR and I can always add the aero bits in the future.

Yes, Chrysler has been trying to sell Viper. Lots of rumors and speculation as to whether a deal has already been made. Nothing official yet.
It is hard to believe that the '08 and '09 Vipers can gain so much horsepower with just a set of headers but it has been verified. Someone explained to me (don't know if it's true or not) that the stock exhausts are very restrictive because they have side exits. The noise regulation tests are supposedly done on a drive by basis and a side exhaust car has a disadvantage. It is hard to believe that Dodge would leave that much horsepower on the table.
Oddly enough I only got a Porsche because of a crappy lying chrysler dealership. I got my deposit back and got a 996 TT. Haven't looked back though I wouldn't mind an ACR. Just seems like it would be too hard to find competition for that car.

the vipers 4th gear is brutal!! have a great memorial day marty
