New Vipers are fast!
I have good reason (and hard evidence yesterday) to believe that
a new Viper Coupe (2008, 600 HP version) with custom headers/exhuast
and a tune is a very fast Hwy Cruiser.
My car will pull slightly on this car but the VIPE is surprisingly quick.
This Viper did 600 RWHP on a Dynojet Recently.
I was on a closed course yesterday and was with a certain ATOMIC (orange colored, highly modified) Z and we witnessed this together.

.
Happy Memorial Day and be safe!

how much horsepower can you wring out of a new viper with just a tune and exhaust? 40-50? If so that would be 650 bhp? The best Turbo/tune upgrade packages on stock injectors barely produce this much power. So you would need to have a fairly significant kit with upgraded fueling to beat one.

that is one fast twin turbo....

Wow, that viper looks/is fast, but I would not want to be a passenger in that car with the weaving he is doing. Just waiting for the tires to break loose on one of the drifts over. I guess all the torque is pulling him around the track??
The Viper in question dyno'd 590 rwhp with just a tune and headers. It is amazing how much hp can be had with very little done and for little money. The only thing better for bang for your buck is the Ford GT pulley/headers/tune - except the price of entry is at least double.
On the closed course Marty pulled a little on the Viper.
Marty - Any video of the run from 70-150 with that little orange vette?

590 rwhp is geat. you need a K24/18 996tt with 60 lbs injectors to equal that.
As for the FordGT, I disagree. Entry price is prohibitive and quality is not there. The 996/997tt's are a better deal.
I was just making a point that for around $3500 you can do a pulley swap/headers/tune and the car dynos 620-640 rwhp. I am not sure what other platform can get that kind of HP for that kind of money.
Not debating quality of FGT vs 996/997. I also stated that the cost to buy FGT was twice as much as Viper and a bit more than a new 997TT.

I agree about the pulley. I think the new ZR1 vette will be like that. It's already starting at 630 bhp, I would not be surprised to see tune and pulley make it go well over 700 bhp. That car might just be the horsepower deal of the century
I also think the GTR is going to be one of those cars that can get some pretty good gains for not a lot of money.
Having owned a Ford GT and a 996 TT X50 with upgrades, I can tell you the quality is good. Very few issues with these cars and these are driven hard. You can pick these up with less than 5k miles in the $130s and for under $10k in upgrades, get over 700rwhp on 91 Octane and up to 800rwhp on 100 Octane (supercharger and exhaust). That is pretty remarkable and you gain significant power from 2500rpms to 6500rpms.. With the 996/997TTs it costs you much more to get that kind of power and not sure you can make it on 91 Octane either. Totally different cars, and each amazing in their own right...
I agree with Atomic, and SealTTX50.
I also know that this particular Viper with headers and a tune (on pump gas) made
590-600 RWHP on a newer Dyno Jet that has showed very consistent numbers.
This Viper is surprisingly fast. I do not have any video of the alleged 70-150 mph run
between midnight blue Pcar and Atomic Orange colored Z, but I heard about it and
the runs were DEAD EVEN.
