toulene, TORCO "accelerators"

Ok guys-
They went to $7.50 per gallon of 100 at the pump. Nevermind they never came off the $7.00 number when gas fell a few months back [100 has historically been $5.00]. Time for a 15 gallon per week boycott!

Has anyone actually looked at afr's when running the torco stuff or adding toulene to the tanks? I have heard both good and bad stuff about the Torco products, including the BIG negative of the fact that I believe that is what Tim [colorinc] was running when he gutted his motor.

Thoughts?

$$: I run Toluene in my 930 at a mix of about 1.5 gallons per 10 of 91 octane. It boosts the octane rating to reduce the chance of detonation. There are pros and cons to the use of Toluene, but it's been around the racing circuit for a long time. Here's the link to an article that I read that convinced me it was ok to use it in the car. I don't use it in my TT....no particular reason...just don't.

Back in my supra days we used to all use toluene at a ratio of 1 gallon per 2 gallons of 93 octane to make roughly 100 octane. The general rule was also to add a few oz. per gallon of some other substance I can't recall (marvel mystery oil or something like that...for lubrication).

If you are just trying to get better timing at 1.3 bar I'd say go for it, on supras we used to run 1.5 bar all day but I wouldn't exceed that.

I've never heard anything good about any other 'octane boosting' product except for meth injection, I wouldn't trust anything else.

I ran torco for years until they took the lead out of it. I ran 1.7 bar on a supra for 25k miles and no issues. Since then I have moved to running a snow performance meth kit on pure alcohol. I can run 2 tanks of gas off 1 gal of alcoh @ 2 bar mind you street driving take it to the track and you will need alot more.

Steve-
I am in NC...nascar country and they are getting 7-7.50 for 100! I have been doing a little research on toluene- this might be the way to go. I did find out that old turbo F1 cars of the 1980's era ran pretty much straight toluene. something like 86% toluene and 14% heptane or something to actually reduce the octane rating to make it compliant. If F1 cars could drink it straight, I need to take a serious look at it.

I have heard it should be about $4 per gallon. I found it at ace hardware but they want $20 per gallon. Have a buddy with a bunch of Dr. Vinyl franchises- says he can get it in drums. He is getting pricing tomorrow am. We'll see. Maybe I run 20% with 93 and check afr's. The move it up to 30% and check again, keeping boost constant. Gotta think about it, but if I can get it for $4.00 per gallon and run 20%-30% with 93, that would be about $3.75-$4.00 per gallon for 100 octane...in very round numbers.
