Cl55, E55, M5

What's the market on these? I have a co-worker who needs to get rid of his 996 and is looking at these options. He really wants a CL55 but can't find one for less then 95K.

I figure E55's should be going for around 70?

or is this one a good deal?

Also, what are used M5's going for these days?

The M5 market is pretty soft these days. You could probably find a low mileage 2003 for low 60's. You can find 2000's in the mid 40's.

03 CL55s with double digit miles should be around 88-92K

03 E55s can be had for 70-72K

I've heard that Mercedes tends to have a lot of problems and the cars go to the dealership from time to time.. Is this true? I just need the true "experienced" input from you guys.. This is also one reason I prefer BMW over MB...

I have a bad automatic entry on the drivers side and a blown turn signal in 9 months and 5,000. I also fried the brakes but that was my fault (at the track).

I had a CLK55 for a couple of years with no issue. I had a 740i sport for a year and half with numerous issues and I've had the M5 in the shop for a couple of things.

Sad but very true. I have had 3 over the years. 86 E320 sold in 95 for 50% of my original cost. S500 bought in 95 and sold in 2003 for 35% of original cost. CLK 55 in 04.

Traded on a 04 Range Rover. The 55 was the worst POS I have ever had.

DB9 on order. While I was in the dealer, they also sell Jags, I noticed that they had 2 04 benzs on the lot. Guy drove in both and traded on a Jag. Both had several problems at the time of trade. One was a CLK the other an S450.

Twin:

Here is a shot with the HRE's on. They really help the handling in 19's and with Goodyear Eagle rubber.

My dad's X5 was a mess. I took it in several times for some circuit board issue. Everytime he put it in reverse, the mirrors would go down to show the curb, even when we flipped the switch to the other position to turn it off. It would not come back up after you shifted into drive like it was supposed to. Later the back hatch latch went bad. At about 19K miles the brake rotors went (and my dad, all 62 years old of him, does not drive aggressive).

I personally like the CL55 much more than the E55. The E does put down slightly better numbers, but that is due to it being smaller. The CL is a full size 2 dr and super comfy. The interior is much nicer than the E. I was never impressed with the E interior. The Buttons and temp ***** looked kinda cheap to me. The CL has Nappa Leather, not sure about the E. Slap a Kleeman boost kit on the CL and off you go! I still love my 2003 CL55 after 2 years of ownership and have not had any problems with it. Too bad it is being redesigned next year.

My family is BIG on MB - we've had dozens since the 70's. Sadly, they are nowhere near as reliable as some might believe.

-2004 SL55: on the way; we'll see how it goes!

-2002 CL600: needed new injectors @ 20K because it would stay in 6-cyl mode.

-2002 ML55: big electrical problem in 10K mi - had to replace a bunch of components

- 2001 S600: MAJOR P.O.S. EVERYTHING GOES WRONG!!!!!

- 2000 S430: Mechanically sound, but problems with trim & build quality

Now compare that to my 1981 300SD that has been in the family since it was new: ZERO PROBLEMS!!!

Yea, seems all high end cars have seriously problems these days. My dads S500 was decent, but his new 7' series has been a train wreck, my brother just finished lemoning his and I think my dad is about to do the same. However they are both gonna get new ones.

That's what warranty's are for
