Transmission rebuild
Good info here. If my second gear ever starts to act up and I have to dive into the tranny, I'd be very tempted to get a longer first gear. Its basically my only real gripe with the car...1st is just not very usuable because it feels so short and winds out too quickly, imho.
Chris that break in file you got is the exact Valet file I want. It barely makes 0.1 bar, a Geo Metro could smoke you right now
Your gears should be an advantage. UMW's LWFW and Clutch is awesome. I am in the middle of my break in and it is really feeling good. I have not heard of one failing if properly installed, so you should be good for quite some time. The LWFW is not loud IMO, which is what I had heard from others using other lwfw kits. But I have seen 4 UMW kits in person including my own and none are overly loud.
Your new LSD should help as well. We should be at the same power level now, so if you beat me it will come down to tranny and LSD. Definitely not driver skill

Subscribed! Good info that I hope I never need... I wouldn't mind doing a cooler as an added safety measure. For now, I'll be changing the tranny fluid more often, especially if I hit the track (which is rare these days).
Kato,
Hows it going?
I dont think allot of people know this but there are 2 different coolers from what I am told. The GT2 style is an air to oil, the GT3 version is a water to oil. The GT2 might be easier to implement with less parts (no need to tap the coolant line) but the GT3 version is probably more effective. Either way, any moderately modified 996 turbo should have at least a trans cooler. Regular trans fluid changes would help to a point as well.

Exactly, would be an excellent valet file...a GEO metro with a few popeyes eating ***** would easily smoke me..at least for the next 75-80 miles.
The gears are a definite advantage, 1st and 2nd are probably around 20% longer which helps in the city, cant wait to see what it will do in Mexico. The clutch/lwfw is pretty damn cool, the engine revs much easier which should help the boost build quicker. I had an iA stage 4 that was on it's last legs, was more of how the dual mass was put together vs friction, but I was able to slip it a little at the end. Would have really sucked if that came apart at high rpm/high speed. The lwfw noise is minimal, you can kinda hear it at a drive through with the clutch out, no big deal. I havent heard of any umw failures either.
With my last tuning file, I could spin the tires at 4500rpm in 4th, the LSD should put more of that that power to the ground, should definitely help off the line as well.
I'll take that win regardless of excuses

Hanging in, thanks! Tranny sounds awesome. I wish there was a simple, bolt on, cost effective tranny cooler kit out there since this may start to be an issue for more and more of us... Vendors-are you listening?
There are other cost effective solutions when doing a cooler, so be aware of that before you guys go spending money...
I plan to use a MOCAL oil to water heat exchanger, pump, and thermostatic switch. Total price on all parts is going to be less than $800. I don't know the exact cost of the GT3 parts, but I'm guessing they're quite a bit more expensive.
