996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Is the GT2 more of a widowmaker than a RWD Turbo?

I am not on top of the story but I presume you were not in the car? Glad you avoided this one. I thought, having seen the photo, this ended badly for someone...

The ONLY thing a 6-2 has is ABS...
and a driver's quick right foor and ..hopefully very fast hands.

I used to think the widow makers stuff was way overblown and related to unskilled drivers. I have had a lot of [skill have one] modded 930s and I thought they were the wildest ones.
I have never-ever driven anything [this includes stupid cars like early Cobras] that tried to put me a ditch like a 6-2 has.

And Porsche saved the "respect" advertising for the 997 GT2 with the safety add-ons.

God help me if my wife reads this thread. During dinner the 17yo blurted out that my new GT2 is referred to as the "widow maker". I shot a glance at him and after dinner used it as a learning lesson about what it means to be in the Little Rascals "He Man Woman Hater" club and the code of silence that goes along with membership. I think he got it.

The only True way to turn it off is unplug the charge pump. It's under the master cyl. As pointed out by another member here...and I thank him.

GT2 is an amazing car to drive. Before I bought mine, a lot of people told me the same thing.
Well first time out with the car at Sebring was raining. No big deal, I thought to myself, maybe I can't drive ... and I'm driving really slow (no traqmate) second day out on toyo Ra-1, I did a 2:21.1, I thought to myself, the car is really good to drive and fun.
Just have it set up right.
My car had 465WHP - 2:15 at Sebring with slicks...
Second best car I ever owned in my life. Now I regret selling it. I should enjoyed it more, needed more seat time.

I agree, the car has a amazing amount of grip, really not a widowmaker at all. Try driving a 930 with 450 or more...a bit touchy
