Strange engine noise

It is been a week now that when i start the car (cold) i hear a ticking rotational noise(it peaks around 1500rpm then goes away) from the left side of the engine...Its frequency is high and the car has done 700km from first hearing operating fine so i do not thing it is something serious...however when the car is hot the noise goes away...If i stop the engine(cold) and start it again the noise almost goes away...The strange thing is that when the car is hot i hear a very very slight ticking noise(about 10% of the cold engine)that i do not thing was there before...
Any ideas?

I occasionally have a sticky lifter at start up. It goes away once warmed up.

good luck

I have a friend that has been a Ferrari tech/expert for 40 years and swears by Marvel Mystery oil. I am not sure if this is okay to use on the 996tt, but I have used it on my S4 and I love it.

I've had this before after parking it for 8months.
It went away after a few start ups.
I wouldn't add any additives.
Just make sure you have some fresh clean oil.

Two weeks ago i changed oil plus filter(porsche shop mobil 1 0-40) and the noise started two or three days after...I read some threads here and i am trying to figure if this noise is just lifter or something more serious like inter...shaft failure....How can somebody tell these noises?the car is running fine, has done 700km from then and the noise does not get any louder...

I think intermediate shaft failure is rare on 996TT. More common on reg 996s. You would probably have much worse problem by now if it was ISF. A bent rod would worry me more but I dont think the noise would vary as much as you say.

A bent rod is a noise that happens only at start up and then goes away?In my car this is the case...Also i believe i can hear it from heft side cylinder head...and not from the center of the engine...i believe a rod that is bent creates a heavy noise that does not go away after a minute or so and also the car would not perform good...Am i wrong?

Maybe try a different brand of oil? I used to run Mobil one until a friend told me about some of the wierd things it does when hot(excessive valve noise etc). He ran into numerous cars running it that also had low oil pressure issues also. When I changed from Mobil 1 my vavletrain got quieter FWIW. I am not a Prosche guru, so maybe a tech or tuner could pipe in with their thoughts on Mobil 1.

I have tried several oils. Right now I am running castrol full synthetic and I like it. This is my S4, so I would do more research before switching on your car. I can't say for sure that the Mobil is causing it on your car, but I hope my experience can help you out anyways. Motul and Elf are supposed to be really good too. Good luck.

Dont get me wrong... I dont think its a bent rod, but that is far more likely in a high hp turbo than an intermediate shaft failure. I think its probably a minor issue like a lifter but its impossible to say without looking at the car (and I probably could not tell you even looking at the car).

Do you have a good Porsche tech in Greece?

Are you sure it is not the RC60lb injectors? They are much louder.
