Another MAF is blown...(4th one)

Today another MAF has RIP...Its the forth time that happens and finally i decided that it is time to upgrade it to Ford MAF,since i believe that stock MAF hp limits are somewhere between 670-700hp...so a k24/18g car with injectors can burn it when boost is up...the question is,does it worth the money to upgrade the whole intake Y pipe and the MAF,or just replacing MAF would be fine...?

Iam not very familiar with your setup. But assume Ford MAF would require some kind of upgrade of the intake.? I would either just do minimum (ie MAF + required software/hardware to accomodate MAF) or I would do MAF + Y-pipe + Throttle body + plenum. I dont think doing the MAF plus only the Y-pipe would help you much. But again Iam not very knowlegable on the non-EVOMS gear.

You can do a plug-in hitachi MAF. Who's your tuner?

Hmmm. Interesting. Most people with MAF issues have some sort of aftermarket airbox/filter. I have stock box, filter, piping and run 1.4bar. Never had a MAF issue. Has this just started? 4 MAF's in how long?

Yep. I blew several MAFs with the EVOMS v-flow, then changed back to stock airbox and filter and whaddya know.... no MAF blow ups or CELs anymore.

As Mike says it does seem most who have this problem have aftermarket intake or filter, and from what I have seen from my research, usually the EVOMS v-flow.

indeed like tt boost said .not very often you hear peopel blowing mafs on stock airbox. you could a hitachi maf or you can upgrade to the protomotve Ypipe and intakes with the ford maf and yes it is deffinately worth it.

A cheap test is to just put a stock filter back in and see if that does the trick. Also see how much power you think you can feel lost. I am guessing you might not be able to tell?

Idles and runs just like stock. You will need a flash specifically tailored for the Hitachi MAF. Otherwise it's a 5 minute plug and play (bye bye blown MAFs)

My undersatding is that the Hitachi MAF provides much better resolution above the 550 HP range (where the stock MAF is maxed out) and hence better power up top.

The Hitachi and Ford MAFs seem to be a required add-on for big power, but there seems to be plenty of guys with 650-700+ hp (24/18 and GT28 varieties) running around with stock MAFs doing fine.

I can tell you that the limit of the stock MAF is FAAAAAR below that 525-575 chp is more like it; however, most tuners rely primarily on the o2 sensors and the knock sensors after that. I would say upgrade the MAF..

Sorry to hear about all of your MAF issues as I know it seems like some cars are jsut prone to the failure. As was mentioned previously, the wrong airbox can expedite the process.

Justin
