I see many of both. Heck, I see more 997tt's than 996tt's. I don't consider it an exotic, but I do consider it a supercar and so does Top Gear, Motor Trend, Road and Track, Super Cars Exposed, etc.

Hmmm, maybe im just not looking hard enough. I see 996tts all the time here in New Mexico, but ive still never seen a 997tt...

Like someone else pointed out, I think were you live and the availability of certain cars factors into the exoticness of the vehicle.

For anyone with this opinion, keep in mind while there were 8,000 996TTs made, there were also 11,000 Ferrari F355s, 16,000 Ferrari F360s, and some 18,000 Ferrari F430s

I think Gallardo production is at 7,500 units

NOW WHO'S EXOTIC

good stats. I don't consider any of those cars exotics either. ferrari 599 is minimum and Murcielago is also.

All good opinions so far guys--both for exotic status and against

I voted it is.......only because it's the closest I'll get (in awhile anyway) to owning an exotic car

In reality, I have to ultimately agree that it doesn't qualify for exotic status. Though, Supercar seems to fit pretty nicely

This depends on what qualifies the word exotic.
It is a practical Exotic!. What is different to some other so called"exotics' is that you can actuallly use it.

Depends on the geographic location. Major cities, nope. Rural areas, more so.

I think when we talk about a $120k+ automobile and we look at total 5 yr. production of 6-8k units worldwide, we are discussing something exotic. During the same period 100 +/- million motor vehicles were sold in just the US.

I woted an exotic because I'd like to feel special, however...

I cannot consider a car built on, a generic run off a mill, platform such as a 996 or a 997 an exotic. If that were a case, a Mustang Shelby Gt500 would be an exotic...and every Camaro SS.

I think an R8 is more of an exotic than a 996tt or a 997tt.

Adam699, I voted exotic as well. My description included price along with limited build numbers and assumed supercar performance.

I believe that we are trying to define the word exotic. Dictionary defines exotic as:
1) from another part of the world; foreign
2) Intriguingly unusual or beautiful

now we need to adapt it to the automobile

Well, it's not like the std 911 is so numerous either compared to a mustang. A 996/997 costs 70k plus when new, not even a GT500 costs that much.

Also the fact that the Turbo comes with $30-40k motor versus the 10k motor in the NA cars, and the fact that the motor in the turbo has won LeMans more times than any motor in history, should make it qualify as something more.
