Mike's advice is well intentioned and accurate. I think that most newbies hitting the Porsche circuit are basically afraid of high mileage and mods due to some misconceptions about someone running the car hard and for what some consider to be "excessive miles". When I started looking, I fell into that same group. I bought one with 18K miles on it, but as I've read and participated in these forums, I've come to respect and better understand the difference between a well maintained and professionally modded car and one that some kid jammed full of mods because they look cool or he wants to whip the Subaru down the street. At this point, I would very readily buy a well modded car from a known and respected forum member....you have the advantage of PM'ing people privately and asking pointed questions about not only the car, but the owner's attention to maintenance and his driving habits.

You literally have the option of saving thousands of dollars and getting a beatuifully set up driving machine.

I was also told that if speed is not as important that I should look at a non turbo w/a body kit. Is it true that they have a smoother ride ???

Smoother HOW?

I owned a 03 C4S as well. the NA car is a BIT more laid back in town but not much. And for your price delta from C4S to TT (let alone mods) it would be silly to skip the TT..

I second the motion of the Turbo over a C4s, for the price difference you get so much more value with the turbo.

+1

I never had any experiance with other porsches and jumped right into a turbo, and althou I cannot speak for modified cars, the drivebility around town is superb. When driven gently the power delivery feels as smooth as a camry, the engine has plenty or torque on it's own to get you moving. Once you get moving, I cannot imagine being without the turbos. It's the closest to feeling like being on a sportsbike in a car once you open things up.

Hi sparks,
I have recently started a search too. I'm looking for an 01-03 arctic silver 996tt.

Good luck with your search and feel free to let me know if you stumble across anything that might fit what I'm looking for. Thanks.
