Inspired Driving of a 996TT..hints?

Hi again!..

Having lived the last 3 weeks with the 996TT I have tried a few times to switch off the boost controller and try to go fast on twisty 2nd-3rd gear road. Stock suspension (will need to be replaced by the sport suspension kit that porsche provides), stock brakes and brand new michelin pilot sport 2 tyres. Obviously I am trying to come into terms with the revs that turbos kick in and carried speed from corner to corner. Having read several threads in the forum concerning driving of the 996TT I tend to follow the brake before turn and accelerate from apex onwards. Thing is sometimes I am slowing a bit down to get some more speed from before the apex (trying to see the reation of the car).. At several occasions with mild accelaration the front end of the car started drifting away from the road, so I momentarily lifted off the gas, slight opposite steering and corrected with gas having lost a lot of time...having lost the right line..more or less having lost everything..I am running the tyres at -2 psi than reccomended hoping for better grip. I know I will have to adjust the speed at the entrance but my question lies within the boundaries of fast road driving...positioning the car just before the bend (assuming a faster entrance)..why do I get the front of the car wanting to loose its grip and line and eventually when I accelerate I am always carefull to catch any discrepancies of the rear with opposite lock...

Any ideas-reccomendations-guidelines would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Lefteris

P.S: when boost starts kicking in and the road surface is bad (95% of times here in greece), how damaging is the effect of the PSM kicking in to the engine and the turbos? I have switched off PSM a few times to see reaction of the car under acceleration. 20 degrees sideways on a straight line..if keep on the gas angle increases..correction either with steering wheel or minor lift of the gas..

Driver's Ed if they have it there in the clubs....find and talk to Lefteris (sp?)...

Coilovers, seat time, and such are key. SRF fluid if you DE is worth it, at least at US prices, unless you flush your fluids a lot....

Search on threads about DE and/or driver's ed, suspension, track, and the like here and you will find a ton of things to read (and spend money on...).

Good luck.

Palladin has the same first name with Lefteris (sp) but they are not the same person...Palladin is a very close friend of me and he really can teach us how to drive fast our cars...He went from M to 996TT...and he is trying to get the best out of his cars handling...i am sure he will do it...Here are some pics of Sundays car wash...(palladin almost fell of a rock trying to get a nice picture...)

Stupid questions: What does DE stand for? ..Driver's ed is some kind of guide I assume?
Seat time I assume is drive more to become more familiar with the car?
SRF fluid is the motul 600?

Coilovers indeed in route for ordering along with a few tricky bits. Will have to search the forum a bit more for answers! Just wanted to hear your opinion from a subjective point of view. There are no rights or wrongs (unless really wrong) in the driving of each one of us. I use a different style, my very good friend Dimitris (silver 996TT rocket above) uses a different style but still we move very close to each other when on twisty roads.

Obviously learning to go fast in a car like the 996TT is not an easy thing to do thats way I am about to attend all 3 levels of the porsche sport driving school using my car in order to solve some critical questions on track..Porsche official test track in liepzing, misano and the ring are the 3 respective tracks for each level.

On the road we may be considered to be "inspired drivers" ( i would use the word fast-as it is 2 relative), but some things still seem out of place mainly due to the weight distribution, acceleration timing and brake power..combo of these can significantly make us a bit better..An as it may or may not be said before porsche drivers in greece use the car as a social status symbol where us (at least dimitris and me), use it a stress relieve tool .... with a bit of drifting

Car will be used in track as well...I tend to do around 6-8 trackdays per year...

P.S: Just about fell down the cliff beneath the house in an attempt to take a decent picture...lol
