Best oil for 996TT for city driving? Summer 2009 edition.

New-to-me 02 996TT with 55K mi. Intended use: daily driver, some spirited driving, no tracking. Yes, I'm currently wasting its capabilities.

I live in the Pacific Northwest: mild climate year-round; not driven during the winter

I've read all the oil threads on this and other forums. Rummaged through the Bob's the Oil guy site. Visited manufacturers' sites. In short, my head is about to explode but I'm no further ahead in knowing which is best between Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, Amsoil, Valvoline, Havoline, etc. etc. Nor whether I should use 0w-40, 10w-30, 5w-40, 15w-50, etc. German oil vs. ROW oil. Euro-spec vs N. Am. spec. vs Turbo Diesel Truck oil.

And then Porsche publishes a new approved oils list, which may have been different from the factory fill.

Sigh...

So given my usage and location and the fact that I'm coming up on the 60K oil change, what oil should I use?

There is a guy on here with 220,000 miles on his 996TT and he does track his car, and he has only ever used 0W40 Mobil 1. Since you will not be tracking your car, that should be fine. Don't over think this.

Don't sweat it. 0W40 Mobil 1.

ps if you're not driving it during winter, you might want to make sure that your battery does not die on you.

+1 on the relax recommendation. Just do what Porsche says. Mobil-1 0-40.
