Hey guys,
Just wanted to formally introduce myself, I joined the club a few weeks ago after picking up a member's 2001 Polar Silver/Metro Blue 996tt. Needless to say I'm having a blast and it's hard not to smile every time I drive this car. I came from an e60 M5 and it's so nice to have that low end power on tap for city driving, but I do miss the V10 scream. Either way here's a picture of my new to me 996tt and for good measure a picture of my old e60 M5.
I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this community and hopefully making some good friends!

She looks very nice - Congrats!
The v10 scream will soon be a distant memory as the low end torque pushes you back into those comfy Porsche seats
Get a mild tune from one of the fine board sponsors. It really wakens the car up.
Drive it in good health and keep the shiny side up!

It was a very difficult call... The reliability of the 996tt and the value for performance is what won me over. The e60 M5 is a fantastic car, but it's very very costly to maintain over the long haul. i.e. (VANOS - $2K, clutch = $5K, rod bearings = $4k, various electrical gremlins = who knows how much)
The M5 is that crazy chick who is great in bed but super high maintenance, will spend all your money and eventually cheat on you with your best friend. The Porsche on the other hand is the nice girl you settle down with, but still gives you a run for your money.
After all was said and done, I'm much happier in the 996tt.

Looks good and congrats. The wealth of knowledge in this forum is priceless. Do a search for anything you want to know and I'm sure you'll find it. If not, just ask. Great bunch of guys here.

Here's how I would characterize it. I just paid over $4k for my clutch job, did I love it, no. Do I expect to pay more for parts, yes. With the M5, stuff would break that shouldn't and they were always in $1-2k increments . . . CAM sensors, stupid computer fans, etc. Wear items, I am OK with, the M5 would break things that just shouldn't. I trust you will be happy with your decision, I have been delighted-- KH
