Will 996TT prices go any lower?
Will 996TT prices go any lower?
I think that the 996TT prices have stabilized. The value will now be based on the year, mileage, options and condition. If you buy one now then the prices should be the same next year all things being equal. Yeah if you buy one now with 10k mi and next year you have 20k mi, the value would have gone down but one with 10k next year will fetch about the same amount of money.

I think that they are rock bottom. I don't see why any 10k miles car would be below 55k once this clears up. 20-35k mile cars should remain mid to high 40's depending on color, options, etc.
That doesn't account for mods either. You don't get 100% of your investment but you do get some. I don't see why well kept modded cars would fetch less than mid 50's.
I think the absolute bottom are cars above 75k miles and tips with similar miles at around 35k-40k.

I sure as heck hope they have stabilized. I'd like to see myself be able to pay down my bank note at least a little quicker than the car has apparently depreciated in the past few months!!
That's not completely true. There will be a point where they will only go lower with miles and wear and tear. They can only go so low. Also, I believe that cars do best when they are no longer on any dealer lots which will come with time.

It's not your car and it's not that it's not worth it. I just bought mine for a lot more than that that is all stock sans a bad *** RUF exhaust.
It's the fact that a lot of previous buyers have been taken out of the game due to loss of job, lack of credit, or being over leveraged, or just waiting for the all clear.
I think it's a decision everyone who is selling needs to make:
Take a loss and sell for cheap because cash is worth a lot more now than it was 2 years ago.
or
Wait till the overall state of the economy is looking on the up and up.

Related yet somewhat funny. Today I was having a windshield guy fill a tiny crack in my 996TT and he was very interested in the car, asking me a variety of questions about it. He culminated with "what is one of these worth nowadays?" and I told him that he could have one just like mine for mid-$40k. At that point, his jaw hit the floor and he said "oh man, I would have guessed $75k. I just paid this much for a new Nissan 350Z". My wife and I had a nice chuckle at that comment as we drove away.
It's true though. The argument doesn't hold up with Porsches. Even though new models come out. A new one is $130k. There is no way you'll see these dip much further than their current values. Worst case I think would be one with like 150k miles, beat up, for mid 20's.
Aside from that. I think we're pretty safe at these levels.

Were else can you get a 420HP 400TQ AWD with a Porsche pedigree for 40K to 50K? First year of the water cooled turbos..... maybe a collectible in 30 to 40years.
Who knows what the headlight design for 996TT's will bring in 30-40 years? Might be similar to the sharknose turbos that were only available for a few years, possibly getting more value.
I've been told that the past 6 months, auction prices have been going up with 996TT's because new cars are not selling. This is what someone told me who works with auctions, and I was going to buy one through them 6 months ago, but now they are higher.

I hope they dont go any lower, Im just saying that only a few cars go back up in value, ........ my car is worth half from what I paid for it back in 2005.. would love to see it start going UP in value.
If the 996TT was a collectible the value would appreciate over time. Only time will tell if the first water cool 911 turbo will become a collectible. Granted that more than a few hundred where made but we are not talking about 10,000 to 100,000 per year. And over time many would have been totaled out. Look at the last gen Toyota Supra or Mazda RX7. These were not collectibles but the valued appreciate back up over a short period of time from the mid-late 90s to now.
Even a Toyota Camry has a point in which the value is based on mileage and condition. The Porsche 993 has stabilized in value. I do not think that any 911 in any year in good condition without need for work would go for less than $20k. I am not talking about cars that have been wrecked or need work. I can't see how even a 1999 996 na tip would go below $20k. I am not talking about 100k+ mi cars. A normal 911 gets driven 2k mi to 5k mi a year as a third or fourth car.
