Spirited Driving in twisties and something wierd happened
Was driving down 2222, its a few miles of twisties and I was heading down the mountain. I was pushing it a bit and right when I was in the apex it felt like the car slipped and at the same time a something on the dash flashed. I couldn't figure out what happened, and couldn't read what popped up. It happened again on another turn and now I'm a bit freaked out. Any ideas? Did traction control kick in?
That's how it is. An experienced driver will need to take it off to really drive. That said, given the high threshold of this car, it's probably safer to leave it on. Even when off, it comes on under braking, so the safety net is there.
Yeah, it seems to be a necessary evil. It's really good when you need it and really bad when you don't...

on the track with street tires the PSM goes off all the time. at some point when you are driving hard with R compound tires you will need to turn it off, but please dont turn it off on street tires ON THE STREET

I recommend you learn about the limits of your car its grip and slip angle and PSM intrusion in a controlled environment ie a track.
dont get me wrong I am all about driving these cars hard, just not loosing control and killing the guy coming around the corner the other way!
Ok I did the dad thing sorry
Although some find it distracting or annoying...for the majority of us, it has probably saved a lot of grief. I've only had it come on a couple times. Porsche put a lot of engineering and money into developing PSM, and unless you're tracking it, it's a good idea to take advantage of the Porsche engineering. It can save you when you don't even realize it.
I agree with Tom above^ (and Chuck). Seriously go to the track and learn your car and its limits. I had a prof. driver with me the first time (he got to calling PSM...Klaus). Once you know when it comes on and how to react it is no problem.
