So i have a problem and i cant decide which one of these 2 cars to get
Theres P cars on my mind right now and its all a matter of warranty vs upgrades, Now this is my first Porsche so im not familiar with maintenance or anything like that.
So One of the cars im looking at has a few mods and is the color i want (2002) the other is another color of my choosing and a 2003 and is a certified used Porsche,
The 2002 has the mods i plan on doing and the 03 is fully stock. the 02 is a lil cheaper than the 03
Now if i do oil changes, plugs other regular maintenance stuff myself will that void my warranty? cause its not done at a Porsche dealer and if something goes wrong they will say you haven't had oil changes and plugs and stuff done by us, so why would i cover your motor or something like that
What should i do? go with the certified warranty or the mods with no warranty?? or can i always get the 02 certified by a dealer???
thanks in advance

Don't know what "these" are since there is no link!
They cannot 'void' the warranty because they didn't do the maintenance. Not legally. They can require proof- I've always saved receipts for parts and logged my work in a book (for all my cars, one book.) Never had an issue, never needed proof. But never grenaded an engine either. Legally I feel on solid ground though.
However if you are doing engine mods (flash, exhaust, etc) the CPO warranty is of zero value: any engine mods will (essentially) void the warranty coverage. (I don't like the term 'void', but essentially PCNA will not cover any amage that COULD be related to a mod.)
The 'certified' inspection itself is worthless- assume both need careful 3rd party inspections.
Finally you cannot get a car certified by the dealer (for all practical purposes). Also the third party aftermarket warranties available in CA are few and poor. Plus if you mod you need to self insure anyway.

A few more details would probably elicit more replies from everyone. For example; what kind of mods, what mileage, have you had an independent PPI done on either or both of the cars? Just my .02 cents but your best bet at avoiding expensive maintenance is a thorough PPI done by someone who doesn't have a vested interest in selling the car.
P dealers will certify a car that has service history, good brakes, good tires and no mods. and no obvious body/paint work. They really don't look at much else.
well the 02 has Stage 1, H&R springs, HRE wheels, black, with 25k miles on it and is going for 45, i believe its a friends friends car basically and hes taken real good care of it.
the other one is from beverly hills porsche http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
It basically has all the mods i want on the car, and im wondering what to do. If i was to get the 03 id probably just lower it, and put rims, maybe the gt2 wing, i wonded upgrade the turbos or anything so it wouldnt void the warrenty but thats no fun. but i do want the CPO car because i know ill be covered for the most part. But i guess what im saying is that if i get the 02 do you think i will run into major problems which will require me to take to the dealer? Cause i work on my m3 on my own and i know the porsche is gonna be a bit difficult at first.

They want 60 and the other 45? Go for the 02... for 15K you can do a lot of repairs, if needed. The dealer car will also drop like a rock the second you leave the lot, something the 02 won't, it basically hit rock bottom already, anything cheaper will be skunks so you will always have a market for a taken care of 02. You'll have more power, the right wheels on, etc etc. at 25K miles I wouldn't be worried if you just make a good check first that the car is "honest".

well dealer just called me back and told me the 03 was sold. but now theres a 05 turbo S for sale, 64,999 10k miles on it lease return one owner black on black. there trying to get the car certified... and it looks really nice.. now i cant make up my mind... will the S be worth it if i can get the dealer to go for 60k or 65k OTD???? Or would the 02 please me the way it is without the warranty?? SOMEONE MAKE MY DECISION FOR ME... lol im going delusional
The turbo S as not as far down the depreciation curve so there is more "to lose"
with that one. Having said that, I really like the Turbo S. (A very good friend of mine has a Turbo S Cab and it has more bells and whistles than a Lexus, if you are into that sort of thing).
If the $45K car is closer to how you would have the car, then it is a no brainer,
buy the $45K car.

A CPO'd car is just a check and small fixes to bring the car to stock-like condition (about $1-2K). It absolutely depends on the Porsche dealer and your relationship with them - mine even performs mods and keeps the warranty intact, but we go back a long way. Since you are new, and the Turbo S is a nice car (albeit a bit heavy), I would choose that one.
Huh... So I have a 2004 X50. what else was added in a 2005 "S" besides PCCBs? Bells and whistles and weight wise?
(Keeping in mind that navigation & fiberoptics became standard in 2003)
I am truly curious....

you can buy an aftermarket warranty for the 02 that will cover just as much as a cpo warranty if that is a big concern but obviously you wont be able to mod either of these cars without voiding the warranty
so the X50 and the Turbo S is the same thing???? same upgraded turbo and PCCB?? i actually love both car and its the perfect color combo for me for both, its a little overwhelming, i dont mind spending the extra money for the Turbo S, but i also love the fact that the 02 has Rims, Stage 1 kit and lowered which is exactly what i wanted to do, but the S has better turbos, comes with a warranty(so if anything goes wrong with anything ill most likely be covered , navigation, PCCB brake kit, which is also nice.

buzzm said it. FIRST figure out what you want. The universe of choices is far larger than your two or three cars discussed here. It IS overwhelming. Take it slow, spend time reading up on the several hundred other members facing the same process and asking the same questions.
A turbo "S" is simply how Porsche badged the 2005 model- it was exactly the same as the late 2003 and 2004 models, but had the X50 and PCCBs as standard. (IN other words a 2004 +x50+PCCB = "Turbo S" Of course the 2005 has the "S" label on the back, no other year does.
