'01TT good deal?

New to the forum but have been looking around for a while.

I found a dealer with a 2001 Turbo that only has around 35k miles for $38k. The car looks like its in great condition and from what i've seen anything under $40k is a really good deal if it has low miles.

What do you all think about this deal?

Of course I will have someone do a pre-inspection and all the usual.

Seems like a good deal

The only reason I was able to pick up my car was that it had a low price. It had 65k miles on it, and had some minor body work as well as minor mechanical work needed.

So far I will have 2K in mechanical and $800 in body work. That is not including the 2-4k Joe Twint has saved me on an exhaust for my car. We picked it up for 24k. Without that price I would still be dreaming of having a Pcar. But after it is all done it will be even more of a dream car to me. I will post pics and you guys can be the judge. A 996TT for under 30 grand, with the help of a few new freinds and a supportive wife of course. We did finance though, in case it matters.

That car sounds like a potentially great deal at $38k with that mileage. What other details can you tell us about it? Options? Any aftermarket parts? Can you have it inspected prior to purchase?

Good luck!

Id say if it checks out and needs nothing or very lttle then its a great deal, if you end uo sinking 5-8k into then I think there are other examples in that price range to choose from, best of luck hope it worksd
out. but for close to 40 I would check ou the 4sale section and look at christians car, it has more miles but has a known history and some tasteful mods.

I will do some checking

When my wife and I were looking into buying our 996TT, we found on ebay motors, I think some pretty low mile and tricked out 996TT's some had all carbon fiber packages and other pretty trick stuff, when we were looking for stuff to compare our find to. I seem to remember them being under 45K or pretty close. Some of them had really low miles as well, you might check there, but the only problem is the sellers are mostly unknown to our forum. This forum seems to have a bunch of stand up guys on it who would not hesitate to call BS on something, that in itself would keep me from buying elsewhere. With as pricey as repairs are on these cars it is easy to make a costly mistake when buying one. I would be very careful and stick to known sellers.

Has it had any paint work, accidents or major problems? What color is the exterior and the interior? All in all, it sounds like a very good deal to me but I would have a PPI done.

Thumbs up

That seems like a solid deal if that car is in good shape!

There is an 01 Speed Yellow TT locally to me in CT that I keep seeing advertised for $32,900 - 78k and some really ugly chrome rims.. other than that seems like a bargain.. must resist going to check it out..

These turbo's won't go down that much they will at the most go 15000 in 5 years, but this would be the case with the 2001 for 38000.

Rides:
E500
lx470
bmw 540i
Landcruiser
E300 turbo diesel
2006 911 carrera c2 convertible

Bro, I'm in the DC Metro area as well... is the 996TT you speak of a BLACK car? A MD Dealer?? A friend of mine went to purchase that exact same car you're look at and it's got serious problems.

The turbos are shot* And their are major leaks coming from the motor area in general. My friend, which also owns a shop, put it on his lift and saw this... informed the dealer, then had it put on a lift to show them. They apologized but still refused to come down on price... granted my friend then low balled the **** out of them quoting 7K in repairs ''to get it right'' which even i told him was excessive.

Do yourself a favor, insist on a pre purchase inspection, then point out the same things I just told... then offer them $34K and be willing to go as high as $35K. If it's the same car I'm talking about (which was ALSO a 01' w/ 35K miles in our area/ what are the odds) then it's not worth a penny more than that given it needs new turbos...

PS; At $34-35K you can still buy yourself some 24/18G hybrids and a flash w/ exhaust, bolt them in, have 600HP and still be aroun $40K!

Have a nice day....

Kevin - Thanks for the heads up on the black turbo in DC! I haven't seen that one yet but i'll stay away. The car i'm looking at is in GA.

After looking at the carfax it looks like this car was located in Baton Rouge, LA when Katrina went through there. Even if there is no water damage i'm hesitant to move forward just because of that. Electrical problems from water can really be a pain.

I'm actually looking for Seal or Slate grey. DJM mentioned christians car - If i remember correctly he has the slate grey turbo. Looks like a great car!
