New car, Strange Problem

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2002 996 turbo. The car runs fantastic overall but when accelerating hard the car begins to seem like it's shuddering or the traction control is engaging past 4000 rpm. If this goes on the car throws a warning light to service the car, but when scanned the car throws no codes. If anyone has any insight as to what is actually going on I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

does the car have new tires. If so new tires have a coating on them that makes them slick it happen to me. Once the tires broke in the car was fine

Does the check engine light flash or is it solid when it comes on? If flashing it is a misfire and probably what r3dy2walk said in that order - plugs, coils, then if those do not fix it clean the maf. If that does not work, then maybe a boost leak.

Or could be tires like rh888888 said, but those will not throw a check engine light (CEL) to my knowledge. I am putting coils in my car as we speak for a similar issue...

Your first step would be to pull the codes. If you are a DIY kinda guy, buy a durametric. If you are not, take it to an indi or dealership.

But indeed it is most likely the plugs/coils. But don't do anything till you know what codes are being thrown.

Mine did that shuddering on acceleration just before the fuel pump hose in the tank burst big. I didn't get any warnings though. Think it had a little tear causing a lean out, then it just stopped running.

Plugs/Coilpacks....

Does the CEL blink while the car is "shuddering"?

Agree with the guys above, check into your plugs, coils, MAF.

Easiest thing to do first is to clean MAF...do a search on the DIY but it's super easy...no mechanically knowledge needed. Unscrews, you clean it with metal contact cleaner spray, and put back in.

Otherwise, a shop can check how the plugs/coils are doing. It's about 2 hours of labor for them to get an idea by pulling a plug or 2.

Thanks a lot for the quick replies.

The tires aren't new and I don't think that's the problem.
I'm also pretty sure there's no boost leak.

It doesn't always happen, but it seems to happen more as the car heats up.
The cel doesn't blink either, the car makes a long sustained beep and gives me a message along the lines of engine error return to service or something along those lines. Also if I let off immediately after it begins to shudder there's no error message, but if I hold the gas another second the acceleration cuts a bit and I get the error message.

I'll try to clean the maf, check fuel lines and look into coils and plugs.

Once again thanks for the info and any more is much appreciated.
