How fast will a tune make my 996tt?
I wanted to do this myself too. But, gave it to my shop because the pinch clamps were a PITA to remove. Have your shop replace them with hose clamps that have a phillips head so you can remove them with a long screwdriver in the future if needed.
Change the F hose too while you replacing the DV's. The F hose cannot handle the increased boost pressure with a tune (depending on your current and future mods) and they are 8 years old. Vendors on this board sell the F hose separately and in a kit with 4 of the larger boost hoses.

+1 to everything said here. Go with a tune from a known tuner, not some off the shelf tune that they stick on your car. I have run into 3 people that have had their TT's tuned and have no clue what kind of tune it is as it was done at the dealer. At least known tuners have their reputation at stake and they will try harder to please you.
Typically with the boosted cars I've owned, the DV's are more about keeping reliable boost and some added sound than anything else. You may not see any gains, but you'd probably see more reliable boost if you're monitoring with a boost gauge.
I had my DVs replaced a week before my EPL flash and saw an increase from .5 then to .7 on stock k16 turbos. Then Tony's software bumped me to 1.1- amazing! Thinking about his 16g turbos now....
I'd be leery of someone's tune I didn't know. I know it's very tempting to get a deal but saving $300 on a bad tune only to melt your $20,000 engine isn't something you want to do. I'd recommend Protomotive or one of the well established tuners on the forum. Do the DV valves but don't worry about the air intake, you don't need it.
if the part fails and burns your motor, will they pay for the motor as well?
no, but they have been the alleged problem in a turbocharger failure. I can PM you owner and DV type. Was not my car, so I won't post it public.
Are these diaphragm style or piston style?
