Short Shifter Questions

I have read all about the various short shifters available and I understand there are two types that can work separately or in conjunction with each other.

The first and most common are those that modify the distance ratio between the shift **** and fulcrum and the cable attachment and the fulcrum on the shift lever.

The second type mounts at the transmission. It is with this type that I have a few questions. Here are several photos for reference:

My questions are:
  1. What is the short shifter device and how does it integrate into the shift mechanism in the photos above?
  2. Who makes this type of short shifter and where can I get them?
  3. Is there any benefit to this type of short shifter compared to the lever type?

I can answer question 2... Ruf and Techart make the rear SS kit. I have the Ruf (it was cheaper then TechArt and the same). I had a fellow member of the board install mine and his the same day. 20 min. each. It is a replacment for the OEM connecter. I have the OEM part home. But I'm sure by the time I get there someone with more knowledge on the subjsct will have answered your question. After reading your Stage IV install post I'm sure you will have this done in 10 min flat...

Gary,
Thanks for the info. I knew of RUF and TechArt. I was wondering if there were any others. Also, where did you buy yours from?

I initially had the B&M SS, and after sometime I got used to it and wanted to move towards a shorter shift throw. I recently purchased the RUF SS kit which is set at 40% in conjunction with the B&M short shifter, and I think its great! No real increase in shift effort than just the B&M alone, but much shorter. As for how it shortens the shift....

The Rear fulcrum length is reduced causing the shift throw to be reduced.
Simple really!
