Test drives are the devil...
Test drives are the devil...
or maybe not depending on the ride.
I've been lurking here and reading up/researching for weeks but only now decided to finally register. This has been a very helpful and informative site as I have learned a ton. Definitely a great site full of good people as well.
I originally felt the 996TT was impractical as I have a wife and 2 kids but then again, if we need space, we have ample amounts of it in the Yukon Denali. I almost had myself convinced to stay the sport sedan route until I took a test drive on a 996 TT. Even worse, I made the mistake of driving it first out of 4 car models total I was plannign to look at that day.
I brought my son along to make sure he'd fit in the back just fine and I was surprised actually at just how well he did. It wasn't a tight fit at all (he's 12). While I had a sh*t eatin' grin the entire drive (he did too), my day of test driving other models came to an end. I knew there would be no following that experience plus I wanted to simply savor the experience rather than "pollute" it. On the drive home I came to the realization that there are no other models for me any longer. My next car must be a p-car!
I can already tell this is a dangerous community to be part of but what the hell! It looks like a lot of fun too! Let me ask for patience in advance if I happen to ask too many noobie questions.

Thanks all!
Thanks for the warm welcome and wishes everyone. I know test drive many other cars could elicit the same type of sentiments but the 911 has always held a special place for me. For a variety of reasons I've always had to "settle" on other vehicles but I now have the opportunity and support from a loving wife to get my "new toy".
I tell you that I'm already scouting small and larger mods while searching for vehicles. That is part of the appeal of the TT. So much fun to be had driving it and futzing with it. Now I just have to try and be patient while I search for a choice specimen to call my own...

I previously had a Cayman S and loved it. Bumped up to about 330hp or so. Now, in my new 2002 996 X50 Turbo and the additional 120 hp is addictive. Great car...and my 7 year old daughter loves the back seat so far.
My wife is never a fan of my loud and modded cars. She loves this one so far too...but it is still stock.
Good luck with your decision!
