996 as a DD?
996 as a DD?
Hi guys,
I am considering in purchasing a 02 or 04 996 turbo and was wondering how this car would be for a DD? Any mechanical issues? Whats your opinion on DD a 996? I currently have a 06 Mitsubishi Evo MR and want an upgrade. Any suggestions or opinions will help. Thank you!
Also and 02 for $51000 or a 04 for $58000 which one? Any upgrades between these?

DD every day. No issues.
It is an amazing car.
Sleeper supercar.....I love mine. I'll probably not sell it...it is fully depreciated and nothing yet comes close that I want to spend big bucks on.....
Ferrari: maintenance costs
GT-R: ditto...DE...tranny fluid and brakes...bam
New P car...a pdk in a turbo is my likely next car..or the new gt3rs...wow..but not yet
Corvette: I don't like where GM is right now...but I love the Z06 (sorry guys)
BMW M3: hear the next one will be a bi-turbo...current one is way too heavy and lacks torque (everything lacks torque after a 996TT)..if light and biturbo it could be a good option...smg on the current m3 is very nice imho
New Lexus or Acura supercars....hmmm ...nothing there yet.
Aston: not enough track poise, and pricey
Lotus: track weapon...I could see one of these....
Mini Cooper (don't laugh). Cheap to mod and fast on a non-straight track..but I'd miss the torque...
I love my 996TT.
etc.

DD over here also. Mine is not really a 'sleeper' since it's speed yellow, but there's indeed not a lot out there that I would fear running into.
The car is very easy to live with. A thousand dollars buys you a flash with a +100 count on both ponies and torque. These cars are cheap to mod and highly reliable up to 700HP.
The only complaint is the 2 min turbo cooldown at the end of each ride. From what I understand the 997TT does not have this requirement.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I was looking into a 996 for the price tag of 40-60K. I havent seen and 997 for that price with fairly low miles. Now I have to hunt for one that I like and can test drive. Also have you guys ever experienced any type of oil leaks or burning of oil from the motor that I will have to watch out for if I purchase one?
I daily drove my 996 C4 for 3.5 years including Boston winters and it was amazing. Now my Turbo is my daily driver and it's AWESOME!!!
The Turbo has a handmade GT1 engine and can not be compared to the normally aspirated throw-away engines which can suffer from the dreaded RMS issue.
Our engines are designed for (track) abuse and can take on 700HP without internal mods.
