Not yet, but planning to ask when I call to schedule my 45k mile service. I'd certainly be willing to pay $75 (including your time) for one though.

Could someone post a picture of the finished installation? I was looking at a 997 today and just wondering how the shift boot would look in my 996tt.

You are just replacing the shifter mechanism... nothing you can see on the outside when done is changed.

Actually, you use the same shift boot...all the changes on the finished product are underneath the center console. even the actual shifter that you exchange looks basically the same...only the moving mechanism is different.

I need a clarification. I want to reinstall my existing 996 shift lever as it has the carbon fiber. Will the new 997 mechanism work with it or do I need a new 997 shift lever also. Thanks

You remove the entire boot and reinstall it back on the 997 shifter.

The boot is this. The entire boot from your 996 goes back on.

Thank you, you've been very helpful. Are there any hints you have for the DIY regarding removal of 996 mechanicals and installing the new? Your picture looks pretty straight forward, but would appreciate your comments.

Check you PM. Also, ask ABCar - I was going to email you the PDF, but ABCar already posted it at the very start of the thread.

The rumors and DTMarsh are right! I had a buddy get one from a guy at the dealer for $50 and I just picked one up for $50. Find / make a friend at your local dealer and put the word out. Then wait for someone to replace their stock 997 with a SSK.

I watched / helped my buddy install his a weekend or two ago, so when I did mine tonight it only took like 30 minutes...

The shifter is definitely more precise and shorter! It is a big improvement!!! If you haven't done this yet, it is a good Christmas present for yourself!

I'd love to know the answer to this too...does the 997 ssk not fit, or is it price? And how does the 996 ssk compare to the 997 standard....

i've the 997 ssk in mine even after running the 996 Tequipment ssk which isn't nearly as smooth or precise as the 997 ssk. I got my 997 ssk for approx. $350 worth the extra $150 imo when you're driving a car of our caliber.
