Spanked by a 996 Turbo 10/10/09
This guy wouldn't even look at me or acknowledge me in anyway. I was going to give him the thumbs up but had no success. Next time i'll be on race gas and he'll disappear quickly ...... or at least even faster than he did this time
Spanked by a 996 Turbo
Hello 6 spd people.
Im new to this forum.
Today on the way back from Lake Travis, headed home to Houston (290)
I ran up on this Turbo
Anyone know him???
I was in my “Stock” 2004 C4S (had it a few years) my daily driver.
We ran the cars UP a few times. (Safety 1st, open road, no one around)
Only one problem…… His dogg can “Hunt.”
Don’t think I have messed with anyone with this kind of acceleration before.
Guess one would say … got my A$$ handed to me on a steal gray platter.
He needs to change his license plate to “U2SLO”
Anyway, we pulled over and chatted about 911’s.
(Nice guy and Very knowledgeable about Porsche’s)
He told me about this forum. (so its all his fault, another 966 on your forum)
He also mentioned a up town Saturday morning coffee meet in Houston.
Anyone know the location?
Anyone know some simple mods I can do to my 966. After today I kinda felt like trading it in on a 4 door.

If you want the performance of a turbo, but a turbo....it's way too expensive and time consuming to try to make one from a non-turbo. I started with a 996 C2 and chased rather meager horsepower with some pretty hefty $$ at Sharkwerks...finally Alex just leveled with me and said....You really need to just buy a turbo and go from there. I even considered supercharging the C2. My C2 caught fire (behind the dash) and was totalled and I used the insurance money to jump up to the X50....best move I ever made. Misfortune turned into opportunity. There's no comparison and in the end, it's cheaper and MUCH more satisfying...especially now with the rather drastic drop in prices on the 02-04 996 TT's.
Chuck - Excellent, excellent points my friend. I agree with you on many of them. Here's the thing, I may get a very good deal on the turbo kit, and believe me, it has been a dream car of mine since I was a kid and even more of a dream these days. Part of me wants to make a unique/customized C4S like no other, then part of me says, why go with the hassle of the tuning, $$$$ and potential blown motor b/c there is no guarantee and limited test & dev for TT kits on these NA motors to my knowledge. I think it would be easier to calculate this way b/c I'm trying to justify in my head the opportunity cost of selling the 4S and picking up an 01-02 TT at least w/ less than 40K miles.....So, here it goes.....
Currently have a 2003 C4S w/ 43K miles on it. Basic bells and whistles that come standard w/ these cars, BOSE, heated seats, CD Player, 6spd, etc, but did add some aesthetical mods like 19" champions, Tequipment Roll Bar w/ Cross Brace, tinted windows, fabspeed bypass pipes, Misha GT2 wing, H&R Sport Springs, etc etc etc......My think is, these cars are going for stock most likely in the low 30's......(I would keep the Champions and Roll-Bar to put in the 6TT unless I got upper 30's for the 4S as is). So, stock Turbo's in the 02 year with less than 40K miles are still going for the low $40's for decent ones that don't look like they've been taken through the ringer. Then, to add Coilovers, Tint and upgraded Turbos (which is what I'd want to do), as well as ECU assuming I just swap out the stock rims for the Champions I would have and slap the Teq RollBar in, I'm guessing I need to drop another $10K almost including labor at least to get the car to where I want it to be.......So, now the car has reached the levels of low $50's which would be about an $18-22K difference let's just say.
I have a chance of getting the TT kit done on my car for about $7-8K, maybe less, and I completely understand the max output for the 4S would be just over if not par to a Stock TT, but like us all, STOCK of anything is NEVER good enough, so if I bought a stock turbo, I'd do whatever I could to make it FASTER than stock.....

So, what do you guys think (and I know I'm talking to a strong crowd of TT guys out there whom I have a great deal of respect for and can't wait to join the feeling of taking "CRACK" like I've been told 100x when hopping in to a Turbo). I took a ride in Almo's 6TT w/ K16's and let me say OMFG that thing is SUPERFAST!!!!! I've also ridden in the tuner's TT'd 6GT3 and I was VERY impressed by the power that car delivered and it was only a Stage 1 TT Kit. We'd be going Stage 2 with upgraded Garrett Turbos and Intercoolers running only .4 bar so not too much strain on the engine. Now, also, I do take in to consideration that the kit will cost more than just the initial $7-8K b/c I'd need to upgrade a few other things I'm sure to make sure this thing ran smooth, but still, from an overall investment (assuming all goes well and I don't ABUSE the living hell out of the engine), it can cost half the price of selling the 4S and picking up a stock Turbo. I'm thinking, if I can find an 01-03 TT w/ the mods of upgraded turbo's, c/o's, etc in the low $40's, it would be perfect.......
Thanks for chiming in on this guys, and sorry to the OP if I'm hijacking this thread a little bit, but he and I look to share the same 4S limited power disease and are eager to step it up to TT levels!!!!
Thanks in advance everyone!!!!

In the end, you will have a NA car with a turbo kit, NOT a 911 Turbo. And you will likely lose the money you put into the car between turbo kit, fueling etc...You MAY regret it. Do what you can to get into a Turbo, you will NOT regret that.
^^definitely for sure it still won't be a TT but a TT kit on an NA motor, so I really need to think this through. I think I'm going to test drive a couple TT's this weekend just to get a feel for them. Drove my buddy's 997TT w/ ECU tune and was FLOORED
My wife bought me a mint 2003 C2 Cab for Christmas last year. Had a bow on it and everything. I fell head over heels with her again AND the car. I would say goodnight to it every night and the moment she got dirt on her, she got a bath. Then I drove my buddy's modified 996tt. Just stick K16's and a chip, it was all over. Getting smoked by one is one thing, doing the smoking will have you perusing Craigslist and Ebay in no time. I bought my Turbo and traded in my Xmas present six months later. Nobody messes with me anymore and I live in LA! Good for the ego!
996tt is the greatest automotive bargain of our lifetimes. Just do it!
good luck.

look at it this way by getting the turbo you gain these items, one perfomance much more power at stock level then you c4, two resale value. you may not think about this now but to sell a NA car youwont get enar as much from the price you pay to what u sell as with a turbo car.
most of your upgrades you have now will fit on the new car so your saving that money.
take it one step ata time but dont waste money on the NA engine turboing it unless u can afford to purchase another motor after you break that one. if you ona budget just move into the turbo car and enjoy what you get. and there are a couple mods for little money to vastly increase a stock turbos power.
i was in your shoes about buying both cars i bit the bullet for the more expensive car and wont ever look back.
