Well, that new and shiny M5 is also a lot younger than the RS6 and even the E55 for that matter. A sub-8-minute time is something that I don´t believe is even possible with the M5, but BMW still hyped it up. Wait until the new RS6 comes out in a year or two and we´ll see who runs circles around who .
Thats good for competition. Although, BMW leans more toward the sporting side of consumer autos than Audi does. Just look at the lineups and which car has the sportier, better handling line

A6 VS 5 Series
A4 vs 3 series
S4 vs M3
A8l vs 7 series

BMW clearly has the more sporting lineup and I doubt the RS6 will run circles around the new M5 as it hasn't even mastered the old M5 yet.

Well, the air temperature for the M5 test on the Nring was perfect, 13 °C and asphalt at about 16°. Just ask RC from Rennteam.

Nobody runs circles around anyone anymore, but I think you should check this link again.

lordy, lordy!! even with two IDENTICAL drivers driving those two different street cars on, say, mullholland drive, one car is not going to pull from the other with all of the variables of street driving mishaps that go on in the real world...so, my point is: who cares? lol. buy what car you like the best based on everything else BUT which one went around the ring quickest. okay, i'm done ranting!
A GT2 or GT3 will pull and disappear with little effort from an M5 or RS6 on Mulholland, Stunt, Las Flores, Angeles Crest... take your pick of a twisty road.

Trust me, I've experimented with this.

hamann, maybe i didn't make my point clear. i agree with you about the diff on public roads btwn g2/3 vs. m5/rs6.....i was comparing the m5and rs6 and cls55 on a public road, all driver's skill being the same. my point was that these cars only have about a 20 second diff (if that) around an 8 minute course. you will not see that diff on a mullholland run.....it would be a very close race with no stopwatches involved on the streets (hills, lol).
